Highly anticipated roguelike sequel Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault has confirmed that it will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. The follow-up to 2018’s successful Moonlighter was featured during Nintendo’s March Indie World showcase, alongside a curated selection of other independently developed titles coming to either the Switch 2 or the original Switch.

Both of Nintendo’s Switch consoles have an excellent selection of indie games available in their respective libraries. The company’s decision to combine a handheld system and home console has made the Switch and Switch 2 feel like an ideal place to experience smaller, more niche games, both on the go and on the big screen. Various titles such as Hollow Knight and Braid have received Switch 2 enhancements, boosting these games’ visual fidelity and frame rates on Nintendo’s latest hardware. The ability to modernize even classic indie titles goes a long way toward prolonging their longevity, helping them find and retain a new audience within the modern gaming landscape.

Moonlighter 2 Officially Announced for the Nintendo Switch 2

Spanish game developer Digital Sun has officially confirmed that Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault will be launching on the Nintendo Switch 2 when it releases in late 2026. The sequel to Moonlighter, the debut title from Digital Sun, was announced for Nintendo’s newest system during the company’s March 2026 Indie World showcase, alongside a berth of other indie games headed for the Switch and Switch 2. Moonlighter 2 was first unveiled in the summer of 2025, and launched as an early access title on PC later that year.

Like its well-received predecessor, Moonlighter 2 is a fascinating blend of game genres that combines dungeon-crawling roguelike gameplay with a cozy shop management experience. At night, players will delve deep into dangerous territory, battling their way through various biomes full of threatening enemies while collecting resources and treasure. After your exploration concludes, players will return to their shop, where they’ll stock the shelves with various goods that they’ve unearthed during their dungeon diving. During the day, the shop opens, and players must sell their goods to eager townspeople while managing prices based on customer needs. The availability, usefulness, and rarity of items will affect their worth, and players will need to continuously adjust their pricing in order to ensure they make a profit.

Moonlighter 2 is similar to the first title in many ways while also offering notable enhancements to its gameplay and visuals. While the previous game was entirely in 2D, Moonlighter 2 features isometric 3D visuals, giving the game a more modernized look. The new title will also include a wider variety of environments and enemy types, making for a more varied and dynamic experience as players shift between nightly exploration and daily store management. Players will have plenty of unknown secrets to uncover as they aid the citizens around town and continue to explore deeper into the depths.

The unique combination of a cozy game-style store manager and an action-heavy roguelike made Moonlighter one of the more dynamic and noteworthy indies of 2018, and one of the best examples of how indie games can subvert expectations to create something special. Digital Sun’s developers have set out to improve Moonlighter 2 in nearly every aspect, and the positive reception of its run in early access indicates that their efforts are working. Games like Moonlighter 2 are truly one of a kind, and fans have proven that they will continue to celebrate ambitious and inspired titles like these whenever they make an appearance.
