Below, you’ll find some confirmed things about the John Wick game that will have you even more excited. There are plenty of hopeful things to look forward to when it comes to John Wick’s debut in a AAA game for the PlayStation 5, so check them out below!
John Wick is Getting a New Video Game That Looks Absolutely Brutal
An official AAA John Wick game has just been announced, and it looks just as brutal as the movies that are directly inspiring it.
It’s a Prequel Set Before the Movies
Experience John Wick Before He Retired
The PS5 John Wick game has been confirmed by Saber Interactive’s Game Director, Jesus Iglesias, as a prequel. In Jesus’ own words, “This game takes place during a specific period within the John Wick timeline and contributes to the expansive and rich lore“, so don’t expect a video game sequel to John Wick Chapter 4, or an in-between title for the movies.
In fact, Saber Interactive’s own X account posted the trailer with the caption “Before the car. Before the dog. Before he became the Baba Yaga.” So the John Wick game is likely during John Wick’s peak as a hitman, rather than when he retired after his “impossible task”.
Playable Gun-Fu Will Mimic the Movie Experience in the Best Way
A Distinct Combat System Awaits
While glimpses of in-game footage were limited within the reveal trailer, it’s already clear that John Wick is aiming to bring the brutal spectacle of action gun-fu into the video game world. Not only are there brief glimpses of this as proof, but Jesus Iglesias confirms some features that are signature to the John Wick movies that are integrated into the game.
Jesus states that the use of camerawork, bold and cinematic environments, distinctive gun-fu action, and intense driving experiences will all be present in the game. This means players can expect “a distinct combat system” that will feel and look like no other game has been able to achieve without John Wick as their muse.
A Single-Player Action Experience
No Need for Multiplayer or Live-Service Elements
John Wick is set to be a single-player title, and while details remain tight-lipped, it’s all but confirmed that players don’t have to worry about recent trends seeping into this title. Players shouldn’t expect live-service elements or other multiplayer modes that might hinder the overall experience.
John Wick looks to be a wholly single-player experience, and one where players can enjoy playing as John Wick and only John Wick, without the call to change up the formula of what already works. A game focused on John Wick, where you play as John Wick, in a fully realized story set in the movie canon.
It’s Developed by Saber Interactive
From the Team Behind Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, & Many More
Saber Interactive is a worldwide publisher and developer with over 13 studios across America and Europe, and with their with over 2,600 employees, they’ve created some exceptional games. Saber Interactive usually takes iconic IPs and turns around respectful, fun, and memorable video game experiences.
Saber Interactive’s latest and most popular work on the iconic Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 earned them critical acclaim, and considering how fun, bloody, and respectful Space Marine 2 was, we can rest easy knowing that they’re going to take the utmost care of John Wick.

8 Best One-Person Army Movies, Ranked
For audiences who want to see someone take on armies with just their two hands and their wits, these adrenaline-pumping movies are worth checking out.
It’s Coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
The Fun is Shared Across Platforms
Despite a reveal trailer during Sony’s State of Play, John Wick has been confirmed to be in development for PS5, Xbox, and PC. This is great news for all gamers, as although a John Wick exclusive title would be a win for PlayStation amid their continued exclusives like God of War, Spider-Man, Death Stranding, and Ghost of Yotei (and many more), it would be a true shame if John Wick never made it out of the PlayStation camp.
Thankfully, all players are going to get to experience John Wick. While we don’t know if John Wick is a timed-exclusive or years away, we do know that John Wick will be released across consoles and PC alike, meaning everyone gets to experience the gun-fu.
A Collaboration with Chad Stahelski and Lionsgate
The Epic Stuntman and Filmmaker Behind John Wick is Heavily Involved
When it comes to taking the reins of a licensed IP, some players and fans might fear that if misplaced, it might impact both the canon and feel of the series. Thankfully, that’s not the case. Not only is Saber Interactive a respectful developer, but Chad Stahelski, Keanu Reeves, and Lionsgate are directly involved in the development.
Chad Stahelski, in particular, should be a rallying cry for fans of John Wick, as Stahelski directed all 4 John Wick movies, and entered the film-industry decades ago as a stunt performer. Stahelski’s essential to John Wick’s DNA, so it’s great to see him involved.
Keanu Reeves is John Wick
The Titular Character is Played by None Other Than the Titular Star
There’s only one John Wick, and he’s played by Keanu Reeves. In a surprising reveal, Keanu Reeves is confirmed to reprise his role as John Wick in the PS5 game. This wouldn’t be the first time Keanu Reeves has featured in a video game, as he broke the internet and became breathtaking when he was announced as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077.
Acting across movies and video games might feel different to some stars, but Keanu Reeves has a mastery over both. With his talent and experience from Cyberpunk 2077, we expect Keanu Reeves to bring John Wick to life as a playable character with the elements of cool that only he can provide.
