NBA 2K24 is reportedly set to remove its Dr Disrespect content in the coming days. The removal is expected to occur as part of the next NBA 2K24 update, with the move itself being framed as a response to the streamer’s statement that confirmed some of the controversial circumstances surrounding his permanent Twitch ban.

On June 25, Dr Disrespect admitted to exchanging “inappropriate” Twitch Whisper messages with a minor. The streamer, whose real name is Herschel “Guy” Beahm IV, said the exchange took place in 2017, and characterized it as the reason for his unceremonious Twitch exit in 2020.

Midnight Society is Terminating Its Relationship With Dr Disrespect

The Midnight Society gaming studio officially terminates its relationship with content creator Dr Disrespect after Twitch ban allegations.

NBA 2K24 will be removing its Dr Disrespect content in response to this development, Dexerto reports, citing a statement from a 2K spokesperson. The purge will encompass his in-game character, red vest cosmetic, and Dunk Style animation. The removal will be implemented as part of the Season 9 patch, which is still without a firm release date but is expected to roll out sometime in August, based on the average length of the previous NBA 2K24 seasons, the latest of which just debuted on June 28.

Dr Disrespect’s 2K collaboration started with NBA 2K23, which also featured his likeness. The publisher did not give any indication that it plans to remove the streamer’s content from the previous entry in the franchise. That’s possibly because the game is nearing the end of its life cycle, with NBA 2K23 multiplayer servers being set to shut down on December 31, 2024. Either way, 2K has confirmed that Dr Disrespect won’t be featured in any future entries in its basketball sim franchise.

2K is far from the first sponsor to disassociate itself from the 42-year-old content creator over his confirmation of the circumstances surrounding his Twitch ban. The San Francisco 49ers have also cut ties with Dr Disrespect following years’ worth of collaboration, as did gaming accessory manufacturer Turtle Beach. Prior to this wave of sponsorship withdrawals, the YouTube star was also ousted from Midnight Society, a U.S. game developer that he co-founded in 2021.

Dr Disrespect said he intends to return to streaming after taking an “extended vacation” with his family in the aftermath of this scandal. His Twitter statement that seemingly confirmed an earlier leak from a former Twitch staffer about how he was caught “sexting a minor” has been viewed over 115 million times in just over two days of going live. Several of his long-time collaborators, including TimTheTatman and Nickmercs, have since issued statements condemning his actions.
