Korean developer Pixelity Inc. has released a debut trailer for Evangelion:Δ Cross Reflections, showcasing a first look at a planned multi-part alternate-universe retread of the Neon Genesis Evangelion series in VR.
First announced in early 2025, the project is certainly one of the more ambitious games currently being developed for VR: a trilogy of games structured around the events of the original 1995 anime while telling an all-new story rather than simply remaking the anime in VR. Playing as a new NERV trainee looking to become an Evangelion pilot, the game promises to recreate the large-scale battles against Angels, alongside environments from across the series throughout its alternative-timeline story featuring both returning and original characters.

The first trailer teasing the first game in the series is a 2D-animated recreation of scenes players can look to experience in the finished release. The first scene features one of these new characters speaking to the player as damaged ships fall from the sky onto the street near them. The trailer also includes glimpses of running through NERV HQ, repairing vehicles and Evangelion, training on shooting ranges, and even, for some reason, hedgetrimming and eating cake with Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley, respectively. It’s difficult to parse what these disconnected moments will mean in the context of the game, but it demonstrates that while some of the Angels and characters we see in the trailer are familiar, the game will also be trying new things as it revisits the world of the series.
The Evangelion franchise has never been scared to explore alternative-universe retellings, releasing numerous PC and console games doing precisely that in the late 1990s, including dating sims. The Rebuild of Evangelion films are themselves an alternative take on the original story. It’s not even the first time the franchise has been in VR, with a Japan-only VR experience allowing players to jump into an Eva and fight against an Angel.
This is more ambitious than that, and comes as the franchise seeks to identify itself following the end of the Rebuild series and creator Hideaki Anno’s direct involvement. This first game in this series is planned for release in 2027, with other games in the trilogy set to release at a later date. Between this and the planned Yoko Taro-penned anime TV series, it suggests there’s a growing embrace for new visions and takes on the timeless franchise. Including ones that jump into virtual reality.
