Bandai Namco has announced a new action RPG in the form of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ISEKAI Chronicles. Based on a popular fantasy light novel series, the upcoming Bandai Namco title is scheduled to reach PC and consoles in summer 2024.

Written by a mystery author known only as Fuse, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime started out as an isekai web novel that ran for a three-year period ending in early 2016. The series received a manga adaptation in 2015, in addition to spawning over half a dozen spin-off mangas over the following nine years. It was also used as a basis for several anime shows, the first of which debuted in 2018.

New ‘That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime’ Game Launches August 8

That list of media adaptations will soon expand to include an officially licensed video game published by Japanese gaming giant Bandai Namco. Called That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ISEKAI Chronicles, the upcoming title is being developed by Zoc and Monkeycraft. Behind its wordy name is a side-scrolling action RPG that is largely based on the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime anime. The game is scheduled to hit the market on August 8, with Bandai Namco planning to release it on nearly every mainstream gaming platform: the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC.

ISEKAI Chronicles Mixes ARPG and City-Builder Elements

The RPG will follow yet another adventure of Rimuru Tempest, who will be joined by many other popular characters from the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime anime. Its story will largely serve as a retelling of the established franchise lore, revolving around the gang’s efforts to build out the Jura Tempest Federation nation. To that end, the game will offer an intricate city-building system, which will serve as a break from its side-scrolling hack-and-slash action. While details on it remain scarce, Bandai Namco’s announcement trailer has confirmed that traversing and upgrading the Jura Tempest Federation will be done from an isometric perspective.

Upgrading the city hub’s institutions will also strengthen the player’s allies, with companion side quests offering similar benefits. Leveling up bonds with various characters won’t just help them learn new moves, but also allow them to eventually back up Rimuru’s attacks during the hack-and-slash gameplay segments.

Aside from many familiar faces among the protagonist’s ranks, the RPG will also feature some iconic villains from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. E.g., Bandai Namco confirmed that the game’s story will include the battle against the Falmuth Kingdom, suggesting that players will likely cross paths with the cruel sorcerer Razen.
