A new leak is sharing more details about an in-development co-op game set in the universe of The Witcher, taking place before the main story of the franchise. The Witcher spin-off will feature full character customization and skill-based progression.

The fantasy adventure series from CD Projekt Red has cemented itself as one of the pinnacles of the RPG genre throughout its storied history. Based on the novels of the same name, The Witcher has received three main-series games since the release of The Witcher in 2007, alongside a multitude of expansions and spin-offs. CD Projekt Red has even teamed up with board game company Go On Board to develop multiple board games based on The Witcher, most recently crowdfunding more than $14 million for The Witcher: Legacy. Now, new leaks are hinting at a co-op spin-off of the beloved franchise.

The potential co-op Witcher game has already seen plenty of rumors in recent years. CD Projekt Red has previously confirmed that the studio is working on a spin-off of the series, given the working title “Project Sirius,” said to be focused on multiplayer gameplay. The leak did not confirm whether the new game is a reboot of Project Sirius, though the two do share several similarities. The Witcher studio also revealed in early 2025 that it would be partnering with Monopoly GO and Pokemon GO publisher Scopely to create a new game for one of its IPs.

A Witcher spin-off would have plenty of room to differentiate itself from the main-series games within its world. The Witcher games include plenty of iconic locations that could be re-visited in the spin-off, including landmarks around White Orchard, Velen, and Novigrad. The game could even expand beyond places featured within the main-series games, allowing fans to explore other parts of the Witcher universe. The co-op oriented gameplay will likely make the game’s combat significantly different from previous games, encouraging teamwork between players.

The Witcher fans should have lots to look forward to in the near future, with the next main game in the works. CD Projekt Red shared its first official reveal trailer for The Witcher 4 at the 2024 Game Awards, revealing that Ciri will be the protagonist in the next game. The studio also confirmed that the next Witcher trilogy will likely not receive DLC expansions like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, with the games planned to release over a six-year time period. The Witcher franchise is gearing up to enter a new era, with lots of big changes on the way for the beloved series.
