In light of Bungie announcing that it’s resurrecting Destiny 2, a new concept for its missing red subclass appears online. It has been a popular rumor for a long time that Bungie’s looter-shooter would eventually get a “red subclass” to match the color palette of Darkness subclasses compared to Light ones. Fans even went to the extent of inverting colors from Destiny 2‘s Light subclasses to prove this, with the rumored and never-released red subclass being more orange than red, according to this theory.

Destiny 2 Red Subclass Grenade Ability Shown in New Video

A fan by the name of @throg529 shared a concept video of Destiny 2 gameplay on Twitter featuring the so-called red subclass as imagined by them, with the grenade ability creating blocks of terrain where players can jump or mantle on. The ability is directional and on impact, meaning that terrain blocks emerge from the actual in-game terrain following the direction of the grenade’s vector and can then be used as regular structures. This is made within the game’s Project Sunrise client, which doesn’t affect the servers, and was instead designed to bring back past content and locations. Since then, Bungie has released an official timeline for Destiny 2‘s content unvaulting, stating that not only is the studio reviving the game, but it also intends to release something new in the future. The proof of concept released by throg529 is thus not an official confirmation that the rumored red subclass is in the works, but rather that it could have many interesting applications within the game.
