With the 2026 World Cup coming up very soon, FIFA has announced a brand-new soccer/football game, and it’s unlike any other FIFA game that’s come before it.

The fast-paced, arcade-style FIFA Heroes is a 5v5 game featuring both real-world players and playable mascots and even people from mythology like Thor and Sun Wukong. Some of the real-world players in the game include people living and dead, including Diego Maradona, Harry Kane, Jordan Pickford, Eduardo Camavinga, Jack Grealish, Emiliano Martinez, and Lautaro Martinez.

FIFA Heroes releases on April 26 for mobile, and it will come pre-downloaded on new Motorola devices. The free game is developed by Enver, a studio behind games aimed at the Gen Z and Alpha crowd.

To that end, FIFA Heroes was designed to replicate real-world soccer culture, while adding “exaggerated skills, personality-driven characters, and accessible gameplay.” Matches are designed for short play sessions. The game supports online head-to-head play and also features limited-time in-game events, as well as seasonal progression systems.

The game also features “game-changing powers,” including the ability to shoot flaming soccer balls and make “magnetic” tackles. The game also gives players the ability to teleport. The graphics are stylized. In addition to the real-world players and mythological characters, players can take to the pitch as the mascots from the US, Mexico, and Canada national teams.

FIFA Heroes will come to PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch later on, and cross-progression functionality will be supported.

For years, Electronic Arts and FIFA worked together to release new FIFA games each year. The pair broke up in 2022, after it came to light that FIFA was asking EA to pay $1 billion for each four-year World Cup cycle to use the FIFA name. EA declined, and rebranded its annual game EA Sports FC.
