According to a new leak from Shpeshal Nick, Nintendo could be working on a brand-new Luigi’s Mansion game for the Nintendo Switch 2. The same leaker has also claimed that a Luigi’s Mansion movie is being pitched at Nintendo, and that a new Luigi’s Mansion Amiibo is currently in the works.

The Luigi’s Mansion series made its debut all the way back in 2001 as a Nintendo GameCube exclusive. This spectral Super Mario spinoff saw players assume the role of the green-colored plumber as he clears a mansion of its ghostly inhabitants. Though the series didn’t debut to universal acclaim, it quickly became the GameCube’s most successful launch title. Luigi’s Mansion eventually received a sequel in 2013 for the Nintendo 3DS, which generally performed much better with critics, and in 2019 the third Luigi’s Mansion entry hit the Nintendo Switch. This most recent Luigi’s Mansion title earned an impressive Top Critic Average of 85 on OpenCritic, and as of March 2024, it’s believed to have sold over 14 million copies.

Rumor: Luigi’s Mansion 4 Could Be in Development

On April 7, leaker Shpeshal Nick retweeted a recent X post from Global Box Office that stated The Super Mario Galaxy Movie had crossed the $400 million mark at the global box office, and that it’s now tracking to hit $750 million by this coming weekend. Shpeshal Nick’s retweet came with the caption, “The success of the Mario movies must be having quite the impact within Nintendo. A lot of stuff in the works from what I’m hearing, I can’t talk about it all just yet, but as an example, they’re looking at pitching a Luigi’s Mansion movie.”

Soon after, the Global Box Office X account made a post based on Shpeshal Nick’s retweet, stating that Nintendo is currently pitching a Luigi’s Mansion movie. In the replies to this post, X user @The_Joker claimed that fans want a new Luigi’s Mansion game, not a movie. Shpeshal Nick replied to this comment, claiming that a new Luigi’s Mansion game is in development as far as they know, and that while they “have a very small amount of info on it,” a tie-in Luigi’s Mansion Amiibo is also believed to be in the works at Nintendo. At this time, Shpeshal Nick hasn’t shared any gameplay details or a potential release window for this rumored new Luigi’s Mansion game.

Leaks Claim That Nintendo Switch 2 Has a Big Year Ahead

This Luigi’s Mansion 4 rumor is just the latest in a long line of recent Nintendo-related leaks. Towards the end of last month, leaker NateTheHate claimed that a brand-new Star Fox game could be releasing as early as summer this year. This new Star Fox game could allegedly be joined by a Switch 2 Edition of Nintendo Switch Sports and possibly a Switch 2 Edition of Pikmin 4.

On top of these potential summer Nintendo Switch 2 releases, NateTheHate recently claimed that the long-rumored Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is real and that it’ll be hitting the Switch 2 towards the end of 2026. A new 3D Super Mario game is also rumored to be in the works, though it might not appear until 2027. Of course, all rumors and leaks should always be taken with a hefty pinch of salt.
