Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest is now available, giving the long-running fantasy franchise its first standalone video game on PC and consoles. While primarily a single-player experience, Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest also attempts to mix things up with asynchronous multiplayer.
The Warrior Cats franchise began with Erin Hunter’s Into the Wild in 2003 and has since expanded to more than 100 books across over two decades. In 2021, the series made its first foray into gaming with Warrior Cats: Ultimate Edition, an officially licensed Roblox game made by Coolabi Group. The same developer is currently working on another Roblox experience called Warrior Cats: Lake Territory, which remains in private beta as of late October 2026. Meanwhile, Minnesota-based publisher Trailmark Games announced Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest, the franchise’s first standalone game, in early August 2026.
Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest Is Now Available on PC and Consoles
Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest officially released on October 23. Developed by Peru-based studio Bamtan Games, it is available for the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store). The base game costs $29.99, with Trailmark also selling the $39.99 Feral Edition. The latter includes the $14.99 Prophecy Pack, a cosmetic add-on with extra Cat Creator elements, wearable accessories, a cel-shaded skin, and some bonus poses and effects for the built-in photo mode.
At its core, Clans of the Forest is an action RPG built around exploring the Lake Territories. Players can hunt prey, gather materials, complete quests, and help defend their chosen clan, with ThunderClan, RiverClan, ShadowClan, and WindClan all available. Each faction features an original story campaign written specifically for the game by Erin Hunter. Combat takes the form of turn-based RPG battles between parties of up to three cats, with 75 moves available to unlock in between encounters.
Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest Asynchronous Multiplayer Explained
The game’s multiplayer component centers on Skirmish Mode, which is built around asynchronous online battles. As the term suggests, the mode allows two players to fight each other without being online at the same time. That asynchronous approach extends beyond combat, as players can also visit friends’ camps to craft items or leave resources and materials for their next login. Multiplayer is therefore not a major focus of Clans of the Forest, but rather a light competitive and social layer built around the otherwise predominantly single-player Warrior Cats game.
Character creation is another major selling point, with the multi-platform game advertising millions of possible customization combinations for each Warrior Cat. Although predominantly an ARPG that alternates between exploration and combat, Clans of the Forest also adds gameplay variety through light platforming segments and the occasional environmental puzzle. Trailmark has not shared any official figures concerning the game’s early commercial performance, but revealed that Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest surpassed 200,000 Steam wishlists one day before launch.
