The Nintendo Switch 2 has been on the market long enough for Nintendo’s latest hardware to start building out its own identity beyond the launch lineup, now with a brand-new version of itself. While much of the system’s first year has obviously centered around new Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games and upgraded versions of familiar releases, Nintendo has also continued to find ways to make the hardware itself part of the appeal.
Nintendo Switch 2 is also entering a particularly important stretch in its first year. The system is heading into the holiday season with a growing library of games, while Nintendo continues to use major anniversaries and established franchises to draw attention back to the hardware. That approach has already produced several notable Switch 2 announcements, one of which includes a new Nintendo Switch 2 console for collectors.
New Nintendo Switch 2 Console Officially Releasing on October 29
Nintendo has officially announced a new Nintendo Switch 2 console tied to one of its biggest franchises, with The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2 console set to launch on October 29. The system commemorates The Legend of Zelda‘s 40th anniversary with a themed Nintendo Switch 2, matching Joy-Con 2 controllers, and a specially designed dock featuring the series’ iconic Triforce imagery. The console will arrive one week before The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches on Switch 2 on November 5.

The Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2 uses a black-and-gold design across the dock, with additional patterns and symbols inspired by The Legend of Zelda appearing on the system itself. The included Joy-Con 2 controllers use green and gold coloring, giving the hardware a look that is much more directly connected to the franchise than a simple logo placement. Nintendo has also confirmed matching accessories, including a Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller and a carrying case with a screen protector, too.
Nintendo Switch 2 owners looking toward The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will have a particularly busy few weeks ahead. The remake launches November 5 as a Switch 2 exclusive, rebuilding the 1998 classic with completely overhauled visuals, expanded dialogue, symphonic music, modernized camera and movement controls, and other additions. The first physical print run will also feature textured foil cover art while supplies last, giving Nintendo another collector-focused element around the release.
The new Nintendo Switch 2 arrives on October 29, giving Nintendo a major piece of Zelda hardware to put in stores immediately before Ocarina of Time‘s return. The system does not include the game itself, so players interested in both will need to purchase Ocarina of Time separately. With the Zelda series entering its 40th anniversary and one of the most celebrated games of all time receiving a ground-up Switch 2 remake, Nintendo is giving the hardware a particularly recognizable design just as that celebration reaches its biggest releases.
