Square Enix’s Chrono Trigger remains one of the most beloved and best JRPGs of all time, with its time-traveling adventure and memorable cast helping it stand out decades after its original release, which also explains why Square Enix has lined up a special release for it this December.

Originally released for the Super Nintendo, Chrono Trigger follows Crono and his companions as they travel through history to prevent a catastrophe that threatens the world. The JRPG is known for its multiple endings, turn-based combat, and characters designed by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama. Its lasting popularity has made it a natural fit for Square Enix’s growing lineup of collectibles, particularly those built around the game’s most recognizable characters and themes.

Chrono Trigger – Far Off Promise Releases in December for $29.99

Square Enix has now officially revealed the Chrono Trigger‘s Far Off Promise music box, a new collectible based on the classic JRPG. Available to preorder through the official North American Square Enix Store for $29.99, the music box features a translucent orange case decorated with artwork of Crono and Marle. It is currently listed with an official release date of December 2026, though Square Enix notes that shipping could impact it.

The compact collectible measures approximately 1.57 inches long, 2.36 inches wide, and 1.97 inches deep. As its name suggests, the hand-cranked box plays “Far Off Promise,” bringing one of Chrono Trigger’s classic JRPG themes into a physical product that fans can display alongside their other merchandise. Its orange design and character artwork give it a clear connection to the game without taking up much space on a shelf.

Square Enix has been releasing plenty of music boxes based on its games as of late, with Final Fantasy receiving particular attention. The company’s lineup includes collectibles inspired by Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 9, and Final Fantasy 10, among other entries in the series. Final Fantasy 9: Roses of May Collection is proof that FF9 has perhaps received more music boxes than any other game in Square Enix’s catalog, perhaps building anticipation for a remake, although merch is far from confirmation of that.

The new Chrono Trigger release gives Square Enix another classic JRPG to add to its growing collection of music-box merchandise. While the Final Fantasy games have been a major focus of these releases, expanding to Chrono Trigger makes sense given the game’s lasting popularity.
