A brand-new Digimon video game release has been confirmed for 2027. Digimon has never been quite as popular as Pokemon, especially in the video game space, but it’s still had some memorable releases over the years. There are many Digimon fans nostalgic for Digimon World on PS1, while others would point to the newest release, Digimon Story: Time Stranger, as the best video game the franchise has seen to date.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger was released last year and was immediately embraced by the fandom. Time Stranger was praised for its deep roster of classic Digimon for players to add to their roster, and for featuring some of the most compelling turn-based battles in the series. If nothing else, it was great for a nostalgic trip down memory lane for 90s Digimon fans, and now there’s even more of it on the way.

When is the Digimon Story: Time Stranger DLC Coming Out?

Bandai Namco Entertainment has confirmed that Digimon Story: Time Stranger is getting a major DLC expansion, set to be available at an undetermined point in 2027. Dubbed “A Hero’s Eternal Legacy,” the ambitious new Digimon Story: Time Stranger DLC expansion is set three years after the events of the base game and features a new hero and new locations. Time Stranger‘s DLC looks like it will be more of the same kind of experience that fans were treated to in the base game, so anyone that enjoyed it should definitely make sure that the expansion stays on their radar.

Time Stranger‘s DLC is the only new Digimon video game release currently announced. A full-scale follow-up to Time Stranger has yet to be confirmed, and Bandai Namco hasn’t announced any other new Digimon projects either. However, considering Time Stranger‘s undeniable sales success, one has to imagine that more games like it are definitely in the pipeline. It’s just a matter of when, not if.

As far as the Digimon anime goes, Digimon Beatbreak is still airing new episodes, with its finale set to premiere on September 27. A brand-new Digimon anime series succeeding Beatbreak is also on the way, and, like Digimon Story: Time Stranger – A Hero’s Eternal Legacy, it’s expected to release at some point in 2027. There aren’t many details about what fans can expect from the new Digimon anime series, but chances are it will feature a brand-new cast of characters instead of bringing back anyone from the previous shows. Then again, with 2027 marking the franchise’s 30th anniversary, perhaps the new anime will be more of a nostalgia play.

Ultimately, Digimon fans will just have to hang tight and wait for more information on the anime as well as any future Digimon video game projects. In the meantime, they can continue watching new episodes of Digimon Beatbreak and keep an eye out for more details on the upcoming Time Stranger DLC, which is shaping up to be a rather ambitious release that could very well draw many lapsed players back to the game.
