Classic Sega consoles, including the Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, and Mega Drive, are getting new official watches based upon their classic designs. The sophisticated but charming watches would arguably be a good pick for any Sega fans who want a reminder of their favorite systems on their wrist.
Sega has come a long way over the years, but for many modern gamers, the company is now synonymous with games, but not consoles. The last brand-new console to be released by Sega was the Dreamcast, way back in 1998. Then Dreamcast was arguably ahead of its time, with impressive visuals for the era and unusual abilities like internet connectivity and downloadable content. However, the console ultimately failed to perform as well as Sega would have liked in light of the release of the PlayStation 2, and subsequently, the company shifted its focus to just making games.
Sega Classics Reimagined as Watches
Now, a series of official Sega-branded wristwatches based upon the Mega Drive, Sega Saturn, and Sega Dreamcast have been revealed and made available for pre-order. Each watch is designed to resemble and feature design elements of the console they’re based upon, like the multicolor buttons of the Dreamcast controller, or a replica image of the consoles themselves. Each watch is made of stainless steel, and features water resistance up to a depth of 50 meters. Interested gamers should know that the band requires a wrist size between 150 mm to 190 mm in order to fit properly. Other than the face of the watch, the overall design and band are designed to look sophisticated enough to not stand out in professional settings.

Gamers should be aware that the designs are based upon the Japanese versions of the Sega consoles, so there may be some differences that they aren’t used to. In addition to the designs on the faces of the watches, each watch also includes an engraved logo of their console on the back. They are all also shipped with a box and sleeve based upon their original console designs. However, all this won’t come cheap, as each watch costs $319.99. Pre-orders for the designs are open as of publication time, and will close on August 30. The watches are expected to ship in early April 2027.
Given that it’s been nearly 30 years since the last brand-new Sega console was released, it’s clear that Sega’s pivot in business worked for the company. Still, there are many fans who think back fondly on their Sega systems and wish that there were new releases to be had. That’s likely part of the reason why Sega released its Sega Genesis Mini systems, which feature the functionality of a real Sega system, albeit with a limited onboard number of games and no external game functionality. Unfortunately for fans, no further minis or consoles have been unveiled by Sega at this time.
Thankfully, Sega’s core business is still doing well, with developers like Atlus and RGG under its umbrella. Although the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise nearly ended about a decade ago, it has managed to survive, and found new success with game releases and feature films. Though the heyday of Sega consoles has ended, those who grew up with its games still have a lot to enjoy and look forward to.
