Final Fantasy fans have a busy stretch ahead, with HD-2D game Final Fantasy Resonance releasing in October 2026 before the wrap-up to the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, releases next year. January 2027 is shaping up to be an important time for the Final Fantasy 7 franchise, as well.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation‘s reported DLC line-up suggests its release date is the start of the end, not the end of the end, and it’ll involve tons of content. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is easily the biggest chapter in the remake trilogy, which is saying something given how big the open-world of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is. And fans who want more of the story have one stop ahead of them in January 2027.

Written by Kazushige Nojima, this sequel to Traces of Two Pasts explores the life stories of Aerith Gainsborough and Tifa Lockhart leading up to the main narrative of Final Fantasy 7, and it also includes a bonus short story detailing Cloud’s time as a Shinra trooper. It sets the stage for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Rebirth, and Revelation, and it’s basically required reading for any major fan of the franchise.
More specifically, Final Fantasy 7: Dear Destiny follows Tifa as she rebuilds her life at Seventh Heaven while avoiding the Turks’ investigation into Avalanche, as well as Aerith as she makes a living selling flowers in Midgar while searching for someone important to her. Their separate journeys eventually begin steering both characters toward the events that define the main Final Fantasy 7 universe, and for fans, there’s still a little presence of the one-winged angel that is Sephiroth.

It is believed that Traces of Two Pasts and Dear Destiny are just one stop in the novels in the Final Fantasy 7 universe, with more slated for future releases. For now, though, Final Fantasy 7: Dear Destiny looks positioned as the perfect bridge between FF7 Rebirth and Revelation. With the final game in the trilogy still months away, the novel should give fans new insight into two of Final Fantasy 7‘s most beloved characters while expanding the FF7 Remake universe ahead of its biggest chapter yet.
