LEGO Harry Potter Collection is getting yet another re-release, with the game now coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. LEGO Harry Potter Collection is a collection of LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7. It was originally released for PS4 in October 2016 before making its way to Xbox One and the original Nintendo Switch a couple of years later. WB would then bring the popular collection of LEGO Harry Potter games to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in October 2024.
No new LEGO Harry Potter video games have been released since Years 5-7, but the collection continues to live on. Thanks to the LEGO Harry Potter Collection ports to modern platforms, fans of the franchise can relive their adventures at Hogwarts on the latest and greatest hardware. And now there’s yet another way to play the collection.
When is LEGO Harry Potter Collection Coming to Switch 2?
LEGO Harry Potter Collection will release for the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 16, 2026. Fans can expect an experience that’s basically identical to other versions of the game. This means that both LEGO Harry Potter games will be featured in full, offering lengthy adventures and couch co-op. There doesn’t seem to be any major new features in this version of the game, but fans can expect generally better performance compared to the Switch 1 release. There is one big catch when it comes to LEGO Harry Potter Collection on Switch 2, however.
It has yet to be clarified if LEGO Harry Potter Collection will offer an upgrade path for those that already own the Switch 1 version of the game. Potentially, this means that anyone that already owns the Switch 1 version will have to shell out $49.99 to get the native Switch 2 release. The bright side is that, since there doesn’t seem to be any substantial new features in the Switch 2 release, those that already own it on Switch 1 don’t have to get FOMO. It seems like this game is more aimed at people that don’t already own LEGO Harry Potter Collection. It’s also possible that an upgrade path will be announced closer to launch, so fans should keep that in mind.
LEGO Harry Potter Collection is the only Harry Potter video game releasing for the rest of this year (that we know of), but there’s a big release on the horizon. Hogwarts Legacy 2 has been officially confirmed to be in development, and it will likely release within the next couple of years. Details on what fans can expect from Hogwarts Legacy 2 have yet to be revealed, but it’s expected that the game will tie-in with the upcoming Harry Potter HBO series.
The Harry Potter HBO series is scheduled to premiere on December 25, with an all-new cast. The TV series is expected to feature content from the books that was cut out of the film releases, as well as offer never-before-seen scenes. Fans will get to see how it all turns out later this year, and can look forward to revisiting LEGO Harry Potter Collection on Switch 2 next month.
