Fans of The Legend of Zelda series will soon have a new collectible product to add to their shopping lists, as The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Switch 2 console will be officially released on Thursday, October 29. This special Switch 2 model will feature unique artwork inspired by the Zelda series on the console, dock, and Joy-Con 2 controllers.

The Legend of Zelda made its debut in Japan in February 1986, before making its way west in August 1987. Since then, the Zelda franchise has become one of Nintendo’s tent pole series, alongside franchises like Super Mario and Pokemon. During the June 9 Nintendo Direct episode, Nintendo shared the first glimpses of the Ocarina of Time remake. The company later revealed that the game would be out on Thursday, November 5, with midnight launches planned via retailers such as Best Buy.

The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 Console Arrives October 29

One week before Ocarina of Time hits store shelves, some lucky Zelda fans will see the arrival of a new product. The Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Switch 2 console will be publicly available starting October 29, with pre-orders periodically cropping up via various retailers. The collectible system is priced at $519.99, which is only $20 more than the current price of the base Switch 2. This special console prominently features the franchise’s iconic Triforce logo on the dock, the console, and the Joy-Con 2 controllers. The Joy-Con comes in two different shades of green, while the console and dock are black with batches of gold paint. The bundle will also include all essential cables and adapters to get the Switch 2 console up and running. As far as technical specifications go, the Zelda-themed console is no different than other Switch 2 systems on the market. Additionally, no games are included with the console package, meaning players will have to spend additional money to get Ocarina of Time and other games for the system.

As of this writing, pre-orders for the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 are sold out on the Nintendo Store. In response, Nintendo stated that restocks of Zelda 40th Anniversary merchandise, such as the aforementioned Switch 2 console and a thematic Switch 2 Pro Controller, will be available starting November 5 at midnight Eastern time. The date lines up with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2.

In light of how popular both Ocarina of Time and Zelda’s 40th Anniversary product lineup have been, Nintendo stated that it underestimated just how much of a hit it had in its hands. Nintendo executive Bill van Zyll stated that Ocarina of Time was a “global phenomenon” that exceeded the company’s initial expectations. He further stated that Nintendo would work to replenish inventories of Zelda products as soon as possible, but cautioned that the process would take some time.

Along with the upcoming launch of Ocarina of Time, several of 2026’s top game releases are also on Switch 2. With Nintendo promising restocks of the Zelda 40th anniversary product lineup, it remains to be seen how long inventories will last.
