The official sequel to 2025’s Wreckreation was unveiled on July 21, and it appears to capture the same spirit as Burnout Paradise. The first Wreckreation game was also compared to the Burnout series thanks to its focus on road rage, improvised racing routes, and destructive, car-wrecking crashes.
The 2025 installment of Wreckreation received mostly mixed reviews on Steam. That said, many still viewed it as a Burnout replacement that could satisfy the demand for a similar arcade racer, especially among fans who were looking for an open-world game that felt like Burnout Paradise. Now, Wreckreation‘s follow-up seems to be aiming to recreate that same arcade experience.

The short teaser trailer for Wreckreation 2 showcases the game’s primary setting, an open-world map called Heartbreak City, which features several distinctive neighborhoods. According to the developer, players will have multiple game modes to try in Wreckreation 2, including Marked Man, Blackspots, Eliminators, Pursuits, and Road Rage. The latter two modes, Pursuits and Road Rage, may remind fans of specific game modes from the Burnout series, as well as Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, which was also developed by Criterion Games.

Similar to its predecessor, Wreckreation 2 will also feature online modes, though not much has been revealed about its multiplayer aspects. However, it has been confirmed that Wreckreation 2 will support cross-platform multiplayer, confirming that the developer plans to bring its urban racing game to consoles. After all, the previous title in the franchise is also available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Wreckreation 2 is being developed by a new indie studio called When Tides Turn, though the developers working on it are the same ones behind the previous installment. Explaining the change, When Tides Turn said, “While Wreckreation began life at Three Fields Entertainment, we’ve reached a point where it makes sense for the project to have a new home, one that we own completely.” The studio also added, “Nothing has changed about the people making the game.”
Wreckreation 2 Release Date and Details
Those interested in arcade racing games like Burnout Paradise can currently add Wreckreation 2 to their Steam wishlist. However, the game does not have an exact release date, and given that the first installment launched in 2025, it may not arrive before 2027. Fans who join developer When Tides Turn’s Patreon can also get a chance to participate in a future play test, though testing will be limited to select users.
Wreckreation 2’s Possible Minimum PC Requirements
Developer When Tides Turn is already accepting pre-registrations for Wreckreation 2‘s future playtest plans. Interestingly, the studio has listed minimum PC requirements for playtest participants, which could offer a rough idea of how demanding the upcoming racing game might be. According to the listing, players will need a GPU equivalent to the NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT. They will also need an Intel Core i5-12400F or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X CPU, along with 16 GB of RAM.
The minimum PC requirements for the final product could be completely different, as these are only the recommended specs for an early playtest.
