Atmosfar, a brand-new open-world survival-crafting game, has confirmed that it will launch in early access on Steam in late October. The game has been compared to No Man’s Sky and Astroneer, two space sims that remain highly popular on Steam.

In Atmosfar, players take charge of a massive spaceship called Cloud Cruiser and explore a vast world of floating islands to gather loot and resources. As an open-world survival game, Atmosfar requires players to manage vital resources such as fuel, electricity, and oxygen. These resources also determine how far they can explore Tycos, the game’s world.

Developer Apog Labs initially planned to release Atmosfar on May 20. However, the team delayed the game to ensure it met its expectations. Luckily for fans, the studio now seems ready to launch Atmosfar and give fans of open-world survival-crafting games a chance to play it. The developer plans to keep the game in early access for at least nine months. The early-access version will include two explorable regions and support co-op multiplayer for teams of two to four players. More content is also expected to arrive as the game moves toward its 1.0 release.

What to Expect from Atmosfar

Atmosfar could be considered one of those games with distinctive base-building mechanics. The Cloud Cruiser, which players use to traverse space, also works as their moving home. Players can customize the massive spaceship’s interior to suit their needs and upgrade it to gain new abilities. When exploring a floating island in Tycos, players can ride Wasps, which are smaller, specialized aircraft. The EA version is set to feature three distinct Wasps, likely the Utility, Hauler, and Fighter models.

Combat also plays an important role, as players face alien threats that may force them to unholster their weapons.

The gameplay loop in Atmosfar is similar to most other open-world space survival games. Players explore new areas in search of better resources. They can use everything they scavenge to craft new items or upgrade existing gear. Combat also plays an important role, as players face alien threats that may force them to unholster their weapons. As for the story, Atmosfar depicts “humanity’s final outpost” in a futuristic setting that is destroyed under mysterious circumstances. Apparently, players must uncover the truth behind the disaster while trying to survive.

Atmosfar is developer Apog Labs’ second game, following the business management title Airport CEO. Released in 2021, Airport CEO has earned mostly positive reviews on Steam and attracted thousands of simulation game fans. It remains to be seen how Atmosfar will fare with users when it launches on October 29. The game has solid potential to build a loyal player base on Steam, and while it enters a crowded genre, Apog Labs’ commitment could help Atmosfar make a name of its own.
