BeamNG.drive has officially launched on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, quickly amassing thousands of user reviews and an average score of 4.8 out of 5. Developed by BeamNG, the game is an open-world automobile simulator that has enjoyed tremendous success on PC for more than a decade before finally arriving on PlayStation 5 on October 19.
On Steam, BeamNG.drive holds the rare “Overwhelmingly Positive” user score from more than 420,000 ratings at the time of publication. That success has clearly carried over to its PlayStation 5 port, which has received more than 7,000 user reviews on the PS Store at the time of writing, roughly a day after its launch.
PS5 Users Seem to Love BeamNG.drive’s New Features
Developer BeamNG has equipped the game’s PS5 port with a couple of new features that have apparently appealed to console players. The biggest change is the newly added split-screen multiplayer, which supports up to four players. In addition, BeamNG.drive now features an overhauled introductory mission called “First Drive,” designed to help newcomers get the hang of this realistic car simulator more easily. Moreover, the UI has been redesigned to make the complex menus more accessible to beginners.

oft has now officially confirmed the release date for the highly anticipated port of the AAA driving sim, its imminent launch has seemingly had no effect on BeamNG.drive, a fully independent game. Some argue that one reason is the price gap. While Forza Horizon 6 costs $69.99 USD, BeamNG.drive launched at $24.99 USD. Meanwhile, the indie driving simulator is said to offer immense replay value, with hundreds of different modes, missions, and challenges that add to its overall value at that price point.
BeamNG.drive players can create their own cinematic car stunts while experimenting with the game’s complex crash physics.
For PS5 users who may not have heard of BeamNG.drive, the game is officially described as “A dynamic soft-body physics vehicle simulator capable of doing just about anything.” It is essentially an open-world driving game with sandbox elements, ultra-realistic, customizable cars and a wide range of activities, including racing, cop chases, delivery missions, time trials, career mode, and more. Also, thanks to a free-roam mode and a built-in gameplay recorder, BeamNG.drive players can create their own cinematic car stunts while experimenting with the game’s complex crash physics.
Regarding the long-awaited launch, the developer said, “It’s been a long road, but we’re delighted to celebrate BeamNG‘s PS5 launch with you all.” The release also marks the arrival of update 0.40 for the PC version on Steam, which brings all the aforementioned features, including split-screen multiplayer, an overhauled introduction, and a brand-new UI. The update also adds new vehicles and props, along with several visual and performance improvements across PC and console.
BeamNG.drive has been in early access on Steam for more than a decade, and its release on PS5 has not changed that. The developer says, “The game is still actively being developed, and players will be able to experience its evolution as the team continues to improve and expand the experience.”
