There’s one great thing about gaming: there’s always something exciting on the horizon. No matter how awesome 2026 has already turned out to be for players, with an avalanche of GOTY contenders even outside of GTA 6, next year looks ready to take another huge swing. The upcoming lineup is already starting to look extremely strong and varied, even though the majority of promising titles still only have a vague 2027 window.
Unlike the previous 2027 RPG list with a more official angle, today’s version is a bit different. The open-world RPGs featured in the main selection below are planned for a 2027 launch, but don’t have firm release dates just yet. As such, it wouldn’t be too surprising if at least some of them ended up pushed into 2028. Nevertheless, let’s take a look at some major promising titles RPG lovers might be playing in just a few months, from new entries in well-known series to completely new IPs with admirable ambition.
Honorable mentions (confirmed 2027 dates):
- Ananta – January 15, 2027
- Outward 2 – February 8, 2027 (Early Access)
- Fable – February 23, 2027
- Final Fantasy 7 Revelation – April 8, 2027
NO LAW
There Are Never Too Many Cyberpunk RPGs
Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the greatest modern RPGs, instantly standing out from the crowd due to its setting. Soon, however, the game might find an unexpected competitor in No Law, an upcoming story-rich shooter-RPG from Neon Giant, the creators of The Ascent. While No Law puts its biggest emphasis on FPS gameplay rather than dialogue interactions, the devs promise an immersive experience. From exploring the decadent cybergrunge city of Port Desire, filled with colorful characters, to missions with consequences, alternate paths, and new outcomes, No Law seemingly offers the full package. There’s also plenty of freedom to approach missions as you want, mixing tactical stealth, hacking and gadgets, or opting for classic full-frontal chaos.

Of course, what matters most here is how stunning and distinct No Law looks in early demonstrations. Even if it might feel a little too similar to Cyberpunk 2077 in its visual direction, we can’t really complain about that – there simply hasn’t been anything like CP2077 for six years now. The industrial port city, lush with greenery, promises some rich verticality, and the gunplay and enemy reactivity look like a lot of fun. What’s even more impressive is how No Law punches way above its weight, given there are just around 25 developers in Neon Giant’s core team.
Pokemon Winds and Waves
The Vacation Plans for 2027 Are Settled
The tenth generation of Pokemon games from Game Freak is launching sometime in 2027, with Winds & Waves promising a breath of fresh air for the series. It’s already projected to be one of next year’s bestsellers. Set in a new tropical archipelago region resembling Indonesia, the game takes you on a sprawling journey across numerous islands ripe for exploration, including detailed underwater areas. Naturally, you’ll need some water Pokemon for that, and Winds & Waves is expected to have plenty of new Pokemon in store.
Given the all-new setting, teaming up with various kinds of Pokemon to traverse the vast open world is among the biggest new allures of Winds & Waves. There are plenty of natural obstacles in your path – from underground lava-filled caves and swamplands to treacherous waters. With the stage set for unforgettable tropical adventures for Pokemon fans, at least the question of where to travel on vacation in 2027 is seemingly answered.
Project TAL
Will It Get a Real Title in 2026?
The combat-driven open-world RPG Project TAL (previously TAL: The Arcane Lands) has been teased for quite some time already, despite not even having its title set in stone yet. Setting itself apart with rich Korean mythology and folklore, Project TAL makes combat its biggest allure so far. Coupled with its stunning UE5-powered visuals, there’s definitely plenty to be excited about.
Even in the seemingly saturated niche of Eastern-themed action-RPGs, Project TAL manages to stand out through distinct features like a detailed companion system bringing unique supportive abilities to the battlefield, rich tactical interactions focused on studying enemies and exploiting their vulnerabilities, and truly massive monsters of all shapes and sizes to face. While Project TAL is expected to arrive sometime next year, it has been almost a year without any substantial updates, so hopefully it’ll make an appearance before the end of 2026 just to remind fans that it’s still doing well.
Sea of Remnants
Next Big Pirate RPG, With a Few Unexpected Departures
Pirate games remain rather popular, as evident from this year’s hits like Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and Windrose, among others. And it seems 2027 won’t be dry for fans of the irresistible allure of sailing their own ship across the waves towards adventure. Sea of Remnants, a new open-world adventure-RPG, promises to tick all the boxes you might wish for: customizing your ship, building your fleet, bonding with your companions, battling colossal sea monsters, and ultimately shaping the evolving pirate city of Orbtopia.
Like every respectable game in the genre, Sea of Remnants gives its playground the attention it deserves. The game is built on real ocean physics, with unpredictable waters and dynamic weather promising immersive adventures full of danger. Sea of Remnants is expected to launch as a free-to-play game, so given its pirate themes, colorful aesthetics, and visually pleasing character designs, it’s safe to assume it’ll find its audience. Still, its turn-based combat and seemingly roguelike-inspired voyage structure might be a dealbreaker for some pirate fans looking for a more dynamic and personal seafaring experience with a classic campaign.
My Time at Evershine
Life-Sim, Romance, and Settlement Management – All in Co-Op
As the vast majority of open-world RPGs here focus on action and combat, My Time at Evershine could be a welcome change of pace, following the familiar formula of My Time at Sandrock and My Time at Portia. Sure, combat is also on the menu, but it’s a relatively minor element of the adventure, as My Time at Evershine is mostly interested in refined life-sim mechanics, rich management, and a robust dating layer featuring ten core romanceable NPCs with plenty of unique interactions.
Even outside of that, My Time at Evershine expands the possibilities of previous entries, as you now take on the role of Governor with a wide range of responsibilities. Building your own life and relationships is definitely important, but you also have to lead the people of Evershine to prosperity, recruit and protect settlers, develop infrastructure, craft, build, farm, and everything in between. It’s not just errands, though, as there are plenty of calmer moments in this simulation-based RPG, including varied mini-games. There’s also traditional co-op multiplayer, so you’ll be able to play through the entire story with up to three friends, and even “share romantic moments,” whatever that means.
Xenoblade Genesis
A New World and New Story Make for a Perfect Entry Point
One of Nintendo’s most iconic role-playing series, the Xenoblade family is expecting a major addition sometime in 2027. Xenoblade Genesis, the fifth full-fledged entry, will launch as a Switch 2 exclusive. Genesis introduces a completely new story and characters, and is set in the world of Anshar, bringing together multiple nations in conflict, rich lore fueled by the mysterious Anima force, and the traditional mix of fantasy and sci-fi elements (although the latter is very subtle for now). With a fresh story following the now-concluded Chronicles trilogy, Genesis looks like a perfect entry point to the sprawling series without requiring previous knowledge or experience.
Judging by previous entries, including the spin-off Xenoblade Chronicles X, Genesis will probably be another massive open-world game, and its unique ring world opens up exciting new possibilities, such as flight mechanics. The devs have been rather secretive about further story and gameplay details, so fans have to be patient. Given the series’ acclaimed legacy, we are probably in for yet another epic adventure for the ages.
The God Slayer
Taking the Opposite Approach in Every Major Element
Judging by its debut showcase alone, The God Slayer could be one of the freshest open-world action-RPGs in quite some time. Every element of the game, from setting and traversal to combat, looks surprisingly unique and ambitious. Instead of offering yet another fantasy-based action game with melee weapons mostly set in the wilderness, The God Slayer offers an original steampunk world, a dense capital city to explore and traverse, and combat fully built around elemental powers and environmental interactions.
Playing as an Elemancer who can wield fire, water, earth, metal, and wood, The God Slayer sends you to challenge the mighty and oppressive Celestial rulers, setting the stage for an epic adventure and spectacular battles against the Zhou Kingdom’s gods. The most intriguing thing about the project for me is the promise to set the majority of the game in a layered Eastern city at the height of its steam technology boom, with an assortment of airships, steamboats, and monorails.
On top of that, the devs have teased multiple factions with their own interests, so you won’t only explore and fight, but also cultivate allies and trade in favors to gain any advantage against the ever-present Celestial army controlling the streets.
