The open-world survival-crafting genre is constantly producing high-quality video games across various platforms, even if arguably Steam is the best place for open-world survival-crafting games, but the PS5 is no slouch either, with a new title hitting 4.58/5 reviews at launch. While this number is likely to change somewhat, it’s worth noting that it has still accumulated nearly 2,000 reviews on the PlayStation Store from PS5 users in just 24 hours. That’s certainly impressive.
It’ll be interesting to see where this PS5 user review score ultimately settles, but there’s an added benefit to this success: PS Plus Extra. In other words, plenty of players have no reason not to check it out, and that’s likely resulting in a bigger player base, more reviews, and so forth. Overall, it’s clear why this was a headlining title for the PS Plus Extra games for September 2026.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds Hits PS5 with Stellar Reviews
RuneScape: Dragonwilds, an open-world survival-crafting game set in the beloved RS IP, has officially launched on consoles (and exited Early Access on Steam). This marks the first RuneScape game to launch on PS5, and it’s going well. Per the PlayStation Store, it currently sits at 4.58/5 reviews with 1.8K ratings. Extrapolated, that’s a 9.16 (9.2?) on a 10-point scale. Likely due to how big the game is, as well as the nature of the launch, there are not many reviews for RuneScape: Dragonwilds on Metacritic. These should be taken as they are: early player reviews.

Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.
That said, it’s not that far out of line with RuneScape: Dragonwilds‘ reviews on Steam. It currently sits at 82% Very Positive after 22,000 reviews, which is a strong, considerable volume of reviews. Whatever platform someone chooses to play on (RuneScape: Dragonwilds is available on Xbox Game Pass, too), it seems players can expect a solid 8-9ish game. Of course, some will like it more, some will like it less; reviews are more like guidelines than actual rules, anyway.
For those interested, but perhaps unfamiliar, it’s worth noting that no real knowledge of the OG MMORPG RuneScape is necessary. RuneScape: Dragonwilds is its own thing that adopts its conventions but moves players to the mysterious continent of Ashenfall. There, players will do everything that the open-world survival-crafting genre excels at (gathering, building, crafting) mixed with RuneScape‘s iconic skill progression systems. The goal in doing all of this is to face the dragons that have awoken there, eventually facing Kuldra, the Dragon Queen.
Co-op is essentially a necessary feature for any game in this genre, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds‘ availability on PS Plus Extra no doubt helps make it easier to convince friends to play. In fact, that’s probably one reason why these reviews have skyrocketed as they have, as players are delving in with their friends and leaving their thoughts. As such, it’s worth noting that RuneScape: Dragonwilds supports up to 4 players, and it’s currently awaiting even more players in the PS Plus Extra game catalog.
