Overwatch has revealed Sierra’s backstory, including the fact that her mother was the first test subject of the Soldier Enhancement Program that Reaper and Soldier: 76 were a part of. This new damage hero arrives in Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 2 on April 14.
When Blizzard began its soft relaunch of Overwatch in Reign of Talon Season 1, it dropped five new heroes, with another promised each season after. With Season 2 right around the corner, Overwatch has revealed Sierra, Hero 51 and the sixth to arrive in Reign of Talon. This damage hero uses her Anchor Drone to zip around the battlefield, her Tremor Charges to devastate groups, and her Helix Rifle to home in on elusive foes via Tracking Shot.
Overwatch Season 2 Making Big Change to Map Voting
Overwatch Season 2 is right around the corner, and some big changes to the Map Voting system are set to arrive in the upcoming update.
Sierra’s Mother Was the First Supersoldier in Overwatch
Sierra officially arrives in Overwatch Season 2 starting April 14, and just ahead of her debut, Blizzard has shared her backstory via the Story Time comic, “New Heights.” Sierra grew up with her mother, Kendra Woods. Tough as nails, Kendra taught Sierra all sorts of “games,” including hand signals, tactical drills, and evacuations. However, as she grew older, she realized they were not games: Kendra was on the run from the government. The two moved from place to place for many years, but 12 years before present day in Overwatch, Kendra vanished.
Sierra then went to live with her father and eventually rose through the ranks of Helix Security – the organization rocket-launching Overwatch hero Pharah is also a part of – hoping to use her influence to find where her mother had gone. Though not covered in “New Heights,” the reveal blog for Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 2 disclosed why she was on the run: Kendra was none other than Soldier: 01, the first test subject of the Soldier Enhancement Program.
In Overwatch, the United States government ran a classified military supersoldier program. The project was deemed a failure and shut down, but not before numerous people were experimented on. Only two other supersoldiers from this program have been identified: Jack Morrison, better known in Overwatch as Soldier: 76, and Gabriel Reyes, AKA Reaper or Soldier: 24. Sierra’s investigations into her mother’s backstory led her directly to Overwatch, due to its connections with Morrison and Reyes, where she joins up on the condition that they tell her everything they know about the former commanders.
This conspiracy goes even deeper. During Sierra’s Overwatch cinematic trailer, she tells Sojourn that Talon has breached the Naughton Vault at Watchpoint: Grand Mesa. Victoria Naughton was the head doctor and scientist behind the Soldier Enhancement Program. This means the payload Emre secured from Helix might be a serum or formula Moira seeks to create supersoldiers for Talon.
Fit the 9 games into the grid.
The story of Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 2: Summit is all about the Grand Mesa operation and will even feature a meta event digging into its aftermath. As players complete challenges and earn new rewards, they can expect to learn more about Sierra, Helix, the Naughton Vault payload, and what Talon is planning next. This four-week event kicks off with the season’s launch and runs through May 4, so fans of the lore should be sure not to miss it.
