Back in September last year, during a Nintendo Direct stream, the Japanese gaming giant announced that it was developing a remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for Switch. The reveal trailer showed the graphically improved versions of Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and more. Apart from visual improvements, Nintendo has incorporated some new gameplay features in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake. This information was confirmed in a press release in which the company stated that the remake contains “enhanced graphics as well as new gameplay features.” While it isn’t yet clear what exactly these new additions to gameplay are, revisiting Nintendo’s work on Super Mario RPG remake, fans can expect to see changes such as a fresh inventory system, autosaving, and the like.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Remake Shows Strong Promise

In the GameCube era, the original Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door tasted significant success, quickly emerging as one of the best games on the console. Unsurprisingly, fans had been clamoring for a remake for the past few years. The original game’s status among Mario fans has ensured that there is a strong hype for its Switch remake. As a matter of fact, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake has already sold out at certain online retailers months ahead of launch.

The strong number of pre-orders and the general anticipation leading up to the launch of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake is promising, to say the least. For Nintendo, which is navigating through the final years of its Switch console, the game could likely be one of the last blockbuster launches on the platform. Moreover, as it faces steadily dwindling Switch sales, the forthcoming remake could give the console one of its final sales boosts.
