The Pokemon Company may be subtly teasing the upcoming release of Pokemon Winds and Waves with its newest events in Scarlet and Violet and Legends: Z-A. Each event corresponds to one of the main types represented by Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ titles.

Game Freak and The Pokemon Company have been giving fans plenty of reasons to be excited about the next Pokemon games. Pokemon Winds and Waves will debut as the franchise’s tenth generation of main-series games, set in a tropical island region based on Southeast Asia. Early teasers for the game have already shown off the three new starter Pokemon in Winds and Waves, revealing Growt, Pombon, and Gecqua, as well as hinting at underwater areas and a huge open world. Now, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are teasing the upcoming games with some themed events.

Pokemon Launches New Water-Type, Flying-Type Events

Both Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are joining in on the Winds and Waves excitement with some type-themed events. Scarlet and Violet recently launched a slew of Water Pokemon-themed events on July 16, including Mightiest Mark Magikarp Tera Raids, Water-type Mass Outbreaks, and general Mass Outbreaks centered around Casseroya Lake. Aside from the Mightiest Mark Magikarp, the Mass Outbreaks also give fans the chance to pick up Pokemon bearing special Marks, including Psyducks with the Absent-Minded Mark and Lapras with the Intellectual Mark. Each Pokemon Scarlet and Violet event began on July 16 and is scheduled to run through August 6.

Alongside the Water-type events in Scarlet and Violet, Pokemon Legends: Z-A launched its new Ranked season with a Flying-type theme. Ranked Battles Season 14 officially kicked off on July 15, with players restricted to using only Flying-type Pokemon during the season. Progressing through the Ranked tiers rewards fans with a variety of Mega Stones, including the stones for both the Gen 3 and Gen 6 trios of starter Pokemon. The Ranked season also places some restrictions on legendary Pokemon, with players only able to use one of either Rayquaza or Yveltal in their team. Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Ranked Battles Season 14 kicked off on July 15 and will run through August 5.

The slew of Pokemon events take inspiration from the main theme of the franchise’s upcoming tenth-generation games. While Game Freak has not revealed much about Pokemon Winds and Waves, the games’ theming around a tropical island region suggests that Water and Flying-type Pokemon will be plentiful. The initial launch trailer already teased several Water-type Pokemon appearing in Winds and Waves, ranging from Corsola and Mareanie on the beaches to Tympole in the swamps. Pokemon Winds and Waves are currently scheduled to release in 2027.

Pokemon‘s 30th anniversary has been giving fans plenty to be excited about from the franchise beyond its newest games. The anniversary Pokemon Day presentation was coupled with surprise rereleases of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen on the Nintendo Switch, marking the first time the games have received a new version. The Pokemon TCG announced an anniversary expansion of its own, with 30th Celebration launching in September and reprinting some of the game’s most iconic cards. The Pokemon franchise looks to be pulling out all the stops for its 30th anniversary, with even more likely on the way.
