An upcoming fan-made Pokemon game is set to feature a ton of content, with a brand-new region to explore, over 360 Pokemon to catch, and more than 75 hours worth of gameplay. As one of, if not the, biggest franchises in the world, Pokemon has unsurprisingly inspired all kinds of fan projects over the years. Pokemon fan projects have even included full-blown games based on the franchise, sometimes including brand-new Pokemon to catch.
Pokemon fan projects continue to be announced on a regular basis. Some of the more recent ones that have turned heads include Pokemon Victory, which features an Ancient Greece region and 140 new Pokemon, and Pokemon Emerald Rotate, which recreates Pokemon Emerald but rotates the world to better-match its real-world inspiration (among various other changes). Another exciting fan-made Pokemon release on the horizon is Pokemon Monomyth, which sounds like one of the most ambitious fan games made to-date.
Pokemon Monomyth Trailer
Pokemon Monomyth takes place in the new Athanto region, which features 360 Pokemon comprised of a mix between fan-favorite classics and brand-new creatures. The game boasts new moves, abilities, a soundtrack with over 200 tracks, thousands of Pokemon coat variations, the return of the Battle Frontier, and more. Based on the trailer, the game will also feature anime-style cutscenes. All things considered, Pokemon Monomyth is shaping up to be one of the biggest fan-made Pokemon projects ever.
The Pokemon Monomyth trailer was first released back in May, and so some fans may be growing anxious for more information. According to one of the lead developers of Pokemon Monomyth, the game is “completed” and has been “for several months,” but now the developers are fixing bugs and polishing it. Apparently, Pokemon Monomyth is in its “final round of tester playthroughs” with hopes to release the game by the end of fall. According to the developer, Pokemon Monomyth 100% playthroughs take “over 100 hours on average,” so it’s quite the massive undertaking.
Pokemon fans that enjoy the GBA-era games may be especially interested in Monomyth, but they also have a fresh official release to look forward to in the near future as well. While it has yet to be announced, it’s highly likely that Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald are coming to the Nintendo Switch, following in the footsteps of fellow GBA games FireRed and LeafGreen. Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald Switch ports have been rumored for quite some time, but the latest Pokemon Home update adding compatibility with the games certainly seems to suggest that their release is a matter of when, not if.
As far as brand-new Pokemon games go, the next titles on the docket are Pokemon Winds and Waves for the Nintendo Switch 2, slated to release at some point in 2027. There’s also more Pokemon Pokopia DLC on the way, with the second pack set to drop later this year and the third coming in 2027. Between fan projects and official games, Pokemon fans have no shortage of games to play.
