The Nintendo Switch 2 is getting another new game this fall, with Moomin: Midsummer Madness officially confirmed to launch sometime before the end of the season. As one of the most popular consoles for cozy gaming, the Nintendo Switch 2 continues to expand its library of laid-back games with smaller third-party and indie releases.

Moomin: Midsummer Madness is based on Tove Jansson’s 1954 fantasy novel Moominsummer Madness, adapting its story while also introducing new material into the existing premise. After a sudden flood sweeps through Moominvalley, the Moomin family takes refuge inside a mysterious floating theater, with players controlling Moomintroll and Little My as they explore their unusual surroundings and search for a way home. The cozy adventure game combines familiar moments from Jansson’s story with original episodes, while its hand-painted environments are designed to reflect the author’s art style and illustrations.

Moomin: Midsummer Madness Is Coming to Switch 2 This Fall

The upcoming Moomin: Midsummer Madness was initially announced during Wholesome Direct 2026 on June 6, with only a broad 2026 release window; however, a newly released trailer has now narrowed that window to fall 2026. Alongside the Switch 2 and Switch releases, the game will also arrive on Steam, where its store page currently lists a Q4 2026 launch. Physical media fans and collectors may also be happy to learn that publisher Shochiku Games has confirmed special physical editions of the game will be available for Switch consoles, offering another option outside the Nintendo eShop. The official site currently lists the price as “coming soon,” so more details should arrive closer to release.

Rather than offering demanding puzzles typical of some traditional point-and-click adventure games, developer Crossbridge Game Studios is aiming for a Switch 2 game that is considerably more relaxed. Players will explore environments, interact with characters, complete mini-games, and solve light puzzles with a built-in hint system to prevent players from becoming stuck. Moomin: Midsummer Madness also allows players to swap between characters and use their different traits to progress, while the developers have emphasized that the overall experience is intended to be accessible to audiences of all ages.

The hand-painted presentation has already become one of the most noteworthy aspects of Moomin: Midsummer Madness. Early reactions on Reddit praised the art style and its resemblance to the original illustrations, while Crossbridge responded to questions about puzzle difficulty, saying that challenges will be introduced gradually and designed to remain relaxing throughout the game. That approach appears consistent with the broader goal of adapting Jansson’s tone rather than turning the Moomin series into a particularly difficult puzzle game, with the story focusing instead on curiosity, companionship, and the Moomins’ journey home.

Moomin: Midsummer Madness will be adding another family-friendly adventure to the Switch 2 library when it arrives later this year. The game’s combination of recognizable source material, original stories, approachable puzzles, and hand-painted environments could make it especially appealing to players looking for something quieter between the system’s larger releases. An exact launch date remains the greatest missing detail, but with the release window now narrowed to fall 2026, Shochiku and Crossbridge should have more to reveal about Moomin: Midsummer Madness in the coming months.
