A new Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask release is now available for fans after Nintendo quietly launched it with little forewarning. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is a direct follow-up to Ocarina of Time, where Link finds himself trapped in the world of Termina after setting out into the Lost Woods in search of Navi after the game’s events. With the Ocarina of Time remake set to launch next month, it’s only fitting that Nintendo show Majora’s Mask some love as well.

As the Legend of Zelda series celebrates its 40th anniversary, Nintendo has pulled out all the stops to bring Zelda fans tons of new content. While the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake is the headlining release for the 40th anniversary, a wide variety of other Zelda-themed goods are available, including a $599 Decayed Master Sword statue from Tears of the Kingdom and Zelda Triforce charm accessories for fans to collect. The latest Zelda 40th-anniversary release is a free drop fans can claim right now.

Free Zelda: Majora’s Mask Release Available Now

Available via the Nintendo Today! app, Zelda fans can now enjoy Majora’s Mask-themed digital collectible cards. There are a total of 20 Majora’s Mask cards for players to collect, featuring iconic characters like Tingle, Skull Kid, and Young Link. Each card comes with a quiz question associated with its character that players can answer to earn tokens that can be exchanged for other Zelda cards or Zelda-themed wallpapers for their phones.

Only one Zelda card pack can be opened per day, meaning fans will have to check back throughout October to collect them all.

This Majora’s Mask set of collectible digital cards replaced the previous Breath of the Wild-themed set that debuted last month. Currently, these are the only two sets of digital Zelda cards on the Nintendo Today! app, but the door is open for more to be added in the future as the 40th anniversary celebration rolls on. The release of these Majora’s Mask cards also coincides with the launch of the game’s soundtrack on the Nintendo Music app later this week, on October 9.

Despite being one of the most bizarre entries in The Legend of Zelda franchise, Majora’s Mask has become a fan favorite due to its cast of quirky characters with interconnecting stories and unique three-day time limit mechanic. Following the confirmation that Ocarina of Time would be getting a Switch 2 remake, rumors that Majora’s Mask would receive the same treatment began to spread online. Although there hasn’t been any hard confirmation that a Majora’s Mask remake is in development, the two games are intrinsically linked, and the last time Ocarina of Time received a remake on the 3DS, Majora’s Mask followed suit just a few years later.

Until an official Majora’s Mask remake is announced, Zelda fans can work on collecting all the digital cards in the game’s set on the Nintendo Today! app in the meantime. These collectible cards also serve as a great way to pass the time as the countdown to the Ocarina of Time remake’s November 5 release date approaches in just one month.
