Grand Theft Auto 6 is not coming to Switch 2, but Nintendo of America recently touched on the possibility of that changing in the future. Arriving more than 13 years after the previous game in the series, GTA 6 will be released on November 19. The latest entry in the series is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, though it’s likely it will eventually be released on additional platforms.
Developer Rockstar Games and its parent company Take-Two Interactive have avoided discussing other platforms for the next Grand Theft Auto, but there are a lot of fans that hope to see that change. A PC port of GTA 6 has not been confirmed, but Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has reiterated that the platform remains important to the company.
Nintendo Addresses GTA 6 Possibility on Switch 2
Rockstar developed games came to the original Switch, and Red Dead Redemption was released on Switch 2 in 2025. Despite previous support from the company, a Switch 2 version of GTA 6 does not seem to be in the works at the moment. In an interview with Variety, Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard was asked about the possibility of that changing in the future. Pritchard noted that the decision remains squarely in the hands of Take-Two and Rockstar.
“That’s going to be a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time.”

Rumors about a Switch 2 port of GTA 6 have been circulating online for quite some time, but there could be significant hurdles that prevent the game from being released on Nintendo’s system. Switch 2 might not be powerful enough to run GTA 6 natively, without making significant compromises. Publishers like Capcom and CD Projekt Red have managed to release impressive versions of technically demanding games like Resident Evil Requiem and Cyberpunk 2077, but GTA 6 might be too difficult a task. Multiple Grand Theft Auto games have been released on the original Switch, but GTA 5 notably remains unavailable on the system.
While Rockstar and Take-Two are prioritizing just PlayStation and Xbox at the moment, it doesn’t seem like this will have a negative impact on sales for the game. GTA 6 pre-orders are breaking records, suggesting that this could be one of the biggest video game launches of all-time. It remains to be seen whether the developers can deliver an experience that lives up to the hype, but anticipation is very high. There are even reports that the game’s launch could make it difficult for consumers to obtain a PS5 or Xbox this holiday season.
Nintendo fans will have to wait patiently to see if Rockstar decides to bring the game over to Switch 2 in the future, but the system does have its own major release set for the month of November. A remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will launch exclusively on Switch 2 on November 5. Ocarina of Time is widely considered one of the greatest video games ever made, and a lot of fans want to see the changes and improvements made from the original N64 version. It might not be as big as GTA 6, but the Ocarina remake could end up being a system seller for Nintendo Switch 2.
