The Nintendo Switch 2 is getting a substantial price increase in South Korea, Nintendo has confirmed. With the new Nintendo Switch 2 prices, the popular console is increasing in cost by 17% overnight, a reflection of the current hardware situation across the gaming industry.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is Nintendo’s latest home console, released in June 2025. As the successor to the original Switch, the console was intended to bridge the power gap between Nintendo’s platform and the Xbox and Sony console offerings. As a result, this generation has seen a renewed focus on bringing third-party games to the Nintendo Switch 2, a change in strategy for the company when compared to previous consoles.

Switch 2 has made Mario history, but Nintendo fans probably won’t be celebrating this record anytime soon.

Nintendo Switch 2 is Getting a Price Increase in South Korea

Nintendo posted an official announcement online, confirming that the Switch 2 would be increasing in price from ₩648,000 to ₩758,000 in South Korea. That marks a 17% price hike, despite the console recently turning one year old. Nintendo claims that the change is due to “changes in the various market environments,” and says it will take effect on September 1, 2026. This follows the announcement of previous Switch 2 price increases in the U.S. and other countries earlier this year, which took effect last month.

It remains to be seen whether the Nintendo Switch 2 will see further price increases in the future. Nintendo hasn’t announced anything at this point, but the increase in the costs of hardware prices in the post-AI world does not appear to be slowing down. Lenovo recently warned that high RAM prices are the new normal, and long-term, it makes sense that the prices of home consoles would need to come up to reflect that.

Recent price hikes for home consoles are expected to last into the next generation. A recent report indicated that the PlayStation 6 is expected to have a very high launch price, though nothing has been confirmed yet. It will be interesting to see how potential price hikes affect console sales in the future. One of the biggest benefits of console gaming over the decades has been its affordability, and in the current climate, this idea is being seriously stress-tested.

While price increases for new console owners are far from ideal, those who already have a Nintendo Switch 2 have plenty to look forward to. The Switch 2 has six big releases next month, with plenty to come throughout 2026.
