All eyes are currently on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, but Nintendo already has its next major Switch 2 exclusive lined up. Nintendo has ensured that there is constantly something new to play for the Switch 2, releasing a fresh first-party exclusive almost every month throughout 2026. Nintendo will likely keep up this release cadence moving forward, and these efforts will help the latest home console/handheld hybrid continue selling at a fast pace.
Throughout 2026, Nintendo has published a wide variety of Switch 2 exclusive games, with games like Mario Tennis Fever and Pokemon Pokopia dropping near the beginning of the year, and titles like Splatoon Raiders and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave releasing in recent months. Later in October, Nintendo will release Nintendo Switch Sports Resort for Switch 2, and at the beginning of November, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will hit store shelves. The highly-anticipated Ocarina of Time remake is the headlining new Switch 2 game of the year and is itself a system-selling release, but some fans may be wondering what’s next for the console after OoT hits the market.
Nintendo’s Next Game After Ocarina of Time
Luckily, Nintendo Switch 2 gamers don’t have to guess when it comes to the next big game after the Ocarina of Time remake. Nintendo has already confirmed that Metroid Ravenous will be the next big Switch 2 release published by the company. A direct sequel to Metroid Dread, Metroid Ravenous is a stylish 2D Metroid game that will release exclusively for the Switch 2 on January 27. Going into the details of Metroid Ravenous would be to spoil Dread, so anyone that has yet to play that game should definitely do so before Ravenous hits the scene in January.
While Metroid Ravenous isn’t coming until January, that doesn’t mean there won’t be other exclusives released for Switch 2 before the year is out. It’s not published by Nintendo, but FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods is still scheduled for release later this year. Not only that, but a second Pokemon Pokopia DLC is also on deck, though it currently lacks a release window at the time of this writing.
As for what’s after Metroid Ravenous, four other Nintendo-published games have already been confirmed for Switch 2 in 2027. The Definitive Edition of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is releasing on February 25, while the open world Kirby game Kirby and the World Beyond has a vague spring 2027 release window. Pokemon Winds and Waves and Xenoblade Genesis are also confirmed for 2027, and while official release windows have yet to be announced, it is believed that Winds and Waves will be late-2027 releases for Switch 2.
It’s also widely believed that a new 3D Super Mario game is releasing for Switch 2 in 2027. Nintendo is taking longer than it ever has to release a 3D Super Mario for its latest console, and so a 2027 release is definitely easy to believe, though fans should keep their expectations in check.
