One No Man’s Sky player has utilized the building mechanics in the game to create an incredible orbital base, catching the attention of other gamers. While No Man’s Sky encourages exploring its vast universe, building bases gives players the chance to carve out their own niche in the game.
Few games have experienced as significant a resurgence after an underwhelming launch as No Man’s Sky. Hello Games released its survival space game in 2016, but it famously failed to live up to the expectations many excited fans had. However, the development team has stayed the course and worked hard to bring meaningful free content updates to the game. Now, nearly a decade after its release, No Man’s Sky boasts numerous features that enhance its open world, bringing it closer to the initial vision many fans had for the game. This continued support even earned the game the Best Ongoing Game award at The Game Awards 2025. Thanks to Hello Games’ commitment to its community, No Man’s Sky remains popular on platforms like Steam, where it still has concurrent player counts into the thousands.
Ways To Earn Lots Of Units In No Man’s Sky
Units are one of the main currencies in No Man’s Sky, and necessary for lots of in-game transactions. Here are a few ways to get rich quick.
Many of the game’s active players enjoy building and sharing eye-catching bases for others to see. One of these players is Reddit user Saltheart76, who recently showcased their impressive orbital base. Specifically, they built a circular base positioned in the clouds high above the planet Illompa. Known as “The Rig,” the base featured an impressive industrial design that saw base buildings organized on the perimeter. There was also a walkway that led to a tower at the center of the build. That tower extended above and below the base and included wires that seemingly helped hold the installation together. Impressively, Saltheart76 revealed this was their first attempt at building an orbital base in No Man’s Sky.
Since sharing the base on Reddit, more than 6.4K users have upvoted the post. Among the comments, players loved the industrial design that Saltheart76 chose, specifically pointing out the docking area. According to the creator, some of the inspirations for the project included the films Titan A.E. and Waterworld. Fortunately, the glyphs for the base were included in the Reddit post, meaning other No Man’s Sky players can check out the creation in the game.
Orbital bases are just one style of base builds that players often share on the game’s official subreddit. For example, others have decided to create land-based bases with some amusing themes, such as a Pizza Hut built on a No Man’s Sky planet. In addition, last year’s Voyagers update added starship customization, letting players make even more creative designs.

It will be interesting to see what other base builds are shared with the community in the months ahead. No Man’s Sky‘s last major update was Remnant in February 2026, adding even more features, such as a gravity gun. While Hello Games is still working on Light No Fire, even more free content is expected for the space exploration game this year. With this in mind, more incredible base designs will likely be shared by players.
