Now is the Perfect Time to Start Playing Pokemon TCG Pocket Again

Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s latest event sees the illustrious Deluxe Packs make a return, allowing players an easy path to completing their EX collection. Pokemon TCG has been around almost as long as the franchise itself, providing many children with joy through their youth, and becoming a hub for collectors and traders to show off their sets. It then only makes sense that an iOS and Android version would hit the market, launching globally on October 30, 2024. This digital version, dubbed Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket, became an instant hit through its ability to provide children and adults alike with the same joy the tabletop counterpart captured upon its release. There was one slight issue, however, being the difficulty of obtaining EX cards.

EX cards are among the best you can obtain, often holding the highest attack and HP stats, which is why when Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Deluxe Packs were revealed, it was a huge surprise for many fans. These packs boasted a guaranteed card of four-diamond rarity or higher, often leaving players with more than one EX card, yet had a lesser quantity of four cards compared to the default five. They became an instant hit among players due to their innate quality, but also their ability to obtain cards from just about any promo, easily filling the EX gaps in the digital binder. Fast-forward to the present day, and these limited-time Deluxe Packs have once again returned.

Get ready for the limited-time Deluxe Pack: ex booster packs in Pokemon TCG Pocket, dropping September 30th with guaranteed ♦♦♦♦ rarity cards!

  • January 15, 2026 – January 29, 2026

Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s most-loved packs have now returned to the title for two weeks, offering an increased chance of rare EX cards. Before using all the daily opens, there are various important details to know about Pokemon TCG‘s Deluxe Packs. For starters, any cards pulled from these packs don’t go to the original Promo Dex, but rather the Deluxe Promo Dex. As well as this, many of the cards re-released in the Deluxe Packs contain different covers or obtainable alternate foils to the original counterparts. Thankfully, these issues are being solved in a future update scheduled for around Summer 2026, in which cards obtained from these packs will be added to the retrospective Dex.

The future of Pokemon TCG Pocket seems to be in good hands currently, with the latest Crimson Blaze cards holding fan-favorite Pokemon such as Charizard. Along with this, the other current Promo Event active is Mega Rising, offering cards such as Mega Blaziken EX to the more die-hard fans who really “gotta catch ’em all.” Players who miss these cards, or previous events for that matter, can simply navigate to the pack opening menu and tap a button prompting them to select other booster packs to access them. Despite the initial decline after launch, the player base has steadily risen to around 100,000 concurrent active players, thanks to events such as the Deluxe Packs, leaving now a great time to test any overpowered cards you can get your hands on.

It’s unclear if this much-loved Deluxe Pack event will return after its departure on January 29, although it’s likely to return at some point simply thanks to the number of players it consistently brings back. After Pokemon TCG Pocket recently dethroned Pokemon GO in revenue generated, it seems The Pokemon Company wants to place a larger emphasis on maintaining their player base, and what better way to do that than to make highly sought-after cards easier to obtain. The future of Pokemon TCG Pocket is unclear for now, but it is a better time than ever to obtain many rare cards that players may have missed the first time around.
