Nintendo confirmed that Navi’s distinct “Hey! Listen!” line that became an iconic meme will be included in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Switch 2. Though the upcoming title will include some exclusive features and changes, the Ocarina of Time remake will mostly stay true to the original N64 release.
In short, Navi is a fairy that accompanies Link on his time-traveling journey throughout the land of Hyrule. Having been sent to Link’s side by the Great Deku Tree, Navi offers the Hero of Time advice in battle and occasional reminders about where to go next. Although other characters in Ocarina of Time received some noticeable redesigns, Navi’s updated character model is more subtle by comparison, as her wings are now more iridescent and detailed when viewed at a close camera angle.
Navi’s “Hey! Listen!” Line Is Back in the Ocarina of Time Remake
Despite all the changes coming to the Ocarina of Time remake, Nintendo made sure that at least one part of the game’s original charm made the cut. Nintendo shared a short clip on the Zelda Official JP Twitter feed that featured Link fighting a Deku Baba within the Great Deku Tree. Navi’s iconic “Listen!” line can be heard early in the fight, though at a slightly different and crisper tone than the original N64 release. The lines, “Hey!” and “Listen!” have long stood out to fans due to the frequency that Navi uttered those words in the N64 version. Ocarina of Time will feature voice-acted cutscenes from various characters such as Ganondorf and Princess Zelda, and Navi will have a few additional lines of dialogue as well.
As of this writing, it is unknown who will voice Navi in Ocarina of Time, so fans must wait until the credits roll to know for sure. Along with the return of her iconic “Hey! Listen!” voice line, Navi will also allow Link to Z-Target enemies. When an enemy is targeted, players can press the right button on the D-Pad to freeze time and have her relay some information about Link’s foe via text boxes at the bottom of the screen. In the case of the Deku Baba, Navi states that it will drop either a Deku Nut or a Deku Stick when it is finished off by attacking either its head or its stem, respectively. During the September 8 Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct presentation, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma showed off some gameplay footage and recommended that players pay attention to Navi’s hints.
Although Navi’s iconic lines and her Z-Targeting advice will return in the Switch 2 remake, Ocarina of Time will also include some new features that were not in the N64 or 3DS versions. These include the Trails of Time tapestry, the Zelda Notes feature within the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app, an improved camera control scheme, and the addition of a dedicated jump button.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches on Thursday, November 5, with pre-orders now available on the Nintendo Store and other retailers worldwide. Though it is the most anticipated Nintendo title of 2026, it remains to be seen how the Ocarina of Time remake will be remembered compared to the original 1998 release.
