Nintendo has officially revealed a special edition Nintendo Switch 2 console celebrating The Legend of Zelda‘s 40 anniversary, slated to release in late October this year. During the Nintendo Direct Showcase on September 8, fans were highly focused on the details about the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and it’s release date of November 5 was finally revealed. The announcement of a special themed Switch 2 console was icing on the cake.
The Legend of Zelda is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026, as the renowned franchise made its debut in February 1986, and Nintendo has been preparing several projects and products to commemorate the milestone. The remake of Ocarina of Time was first teased in June with a brief tantalizing trailer, though rumors had been swirling about the project for a good month before that. Now, with its release date confirmed and actual gameplay shared during the latest Direct showcase, the game is expected to be one of the system’s biggest releases of the year.
Zelda-Themed Nintendo Switch 2 Console Arrives Just in Time for the Ocarina of Time Remake
The newly revealed Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 features a Zelda-inspired design across the console, dock, and Joy-Con controllers. Rather than simply adding a logo to standard hardware, Nintendo has given the system and its accessories a striking green, black, and gold appearance that immediately calls to mind the legendary franchise. The special edition console will release on October 29, giving fans the opportunity to pick up the themed hardware shortly before the Ocarina of Time remake arrives exactly one week later on November 5.
Nintendo is also releasing several accessories alongside the special edition Zelda-themed console. A matching Switch 2 Pro controller and carrying case were revealed during the Direct presentation, which will give fans the chance to grab some 40th anniversary swag without necessarily investing in an entirely new console, if they already have a Switch 2, for example. The company is also offering a Nintendo Store-exclusive bundle featuring the Pro controller and a special-edition display stand. All of these products are slated to release on the same October 29 date.
As if that weren’t enough, a special edition of the remake with textured foil cover art is currently available for pre-order, with limited quantities available. Additionally, Nintendo confirmed two new Legend of Zelda amiibo figures, one featuring the Ocarina remake’s Young Link and the other Young Zelda, scheduled for release sometime in 2027. These will unlock special in-game masks that will give Link his and Zelda’s recognizable polygonal faces from the Nintendo 64 version of the game. Besides the cosmetic unlocks, the amiibo will thrill any fan of the franchise as pure decorations. The seated Link figure features the boy reaching his hand out to Navi, while Zelda is holding an ocarina.
