World of Warcraft is introducing the Darkspear Dash, an official in-game Pride Month event, on June 27. Starting this year, World of Warcraft players will be able to show off their Pride in Azeroth in an official micro-holiday activity.

Pride is a month-long celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community, hallmarked by fundraisers, parades, and rainbow decorations. In recent years, many companies have begun celebrating Pride in small ways, such as by adding rainbows to their logos. However, Blizzard has taken it a few steps further, such as by adding new cosmetics and Pride parade map adjustments to Midtown in Overwatch.

This year, World of Warcraft is getting in on the Pride celebration in an official capacity as well. The Darkspear Dash is a brand-new micro-holiday running for 48 hours starting June 27. No official details for this World of Warcraft holiday have been revealed so far, but datamining has suggested the following things will be involved:

  • A Darkspear Dash Event Coordinator who can open a Portal to the Darkspear Dash route
  • Consumable items with reduced cooldown during the event
    • Pocket Rainbow – “Imbue the target with rainbow power!”
    • Rainbow Runners – “Put some color in your step!”
    • Pocket Sand – “These sands will give your body the boogie it’s been waiting for! Become a dancing fiend for 10 minutes!”
  • Permanent Rewards
    • Darkspear Dash tabard
    • Darkspear Dasher title
    • Troll Scroll of Rainbow Roll toy – “Roll like a troll!”

The bulk of the Darkspear Dash takes place on June 28, the day associated with the beginning of the Stonewall Uprising, a major turning point in the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights and the event that led to June becoming Pride Month.

This exciting event includes a handful of rewards for fans to collect. For starters, Pocket Rainbows, Rainbow Runners, and Pocket Sand are charming cosmetic consumable items usable year-round, but that have a much shorter cooldown during the Darkspear Dash. Additionally, players will be able to obtain the Darkspear Dash tabard, Darkspear Dasher title, and a new toy called the Troll Scroll of Rainbow Roll. The toy will presumably let characters “roll like a troll,” with a reduced cooldown during the event, while the Darkspear Dash tabard is a gorgeous new cosmetic item that Troll fans in World of Warcraft will definitely want to collect.

The Darkspear Dash is inspired by the Running of the Trolls, a community-led Pride event to raise awareness and visibility for LGBTQIA+ players and developers. The event typically consists of a beach party on the Echo Isles, a rainbow parade across Azeroth, and finally, a pool party at the old Silvermoon City fountain. 2026 is the 12th annual Running of the Trolls, so it is particularly exciting to see it get official representation from Blizzard for this big milestone.

The Running of the Trolls is also a fundraising event for The Trevor Project, a queer-focused suicide prevention and crisis intervention nonprofit organization. It is currently unclear if the Darkspear Dash will include an element involving this charity.

Everything Else Coming in WoW Patch 12.0.5

Besides this new event, Patch 12.0.5 is introducing several other activities for gamers to enjoy. The new Void Assaults open-world activity and Ritual Sites instances provide opportunities to earn cosmetics and gear, while the Voidforge serves as Midnight Season 1’s catch-up mechanic like WoW: The War Within’s Puzzling Cartel Chips. Meanwhile, fishing fans can go deep sea diving with Abyss Anglers, while Prop Hunt enthusiasts can enjoy the new Decor Duels PvP mini-game.

The first post-launch update for WoW: Midnight doesn’t have a release date, but players have a pretty good idea of when it might arrive. Most recent WoW updates have arrived about eight weeks after the previous one; if Blizzard follows precedent, that would place Patch 12.0.5 on or around April 28.
