The ARC Raiders community wants developer Embark Studios to remove the darker variant of Stella Montis from the game, as certain areas of the map are borderline unplayable for players, especially those with an OLED monitor, which creates perfect black levels with no light bleed. Although Stella Montis has its own dedicated night raid map condition, like all other maps in ARC Raiders, the standard version still features a variant that appears similar to the night raid, making it much more difficult for players to see anything.
One of the first map conditions to feature in ARC Raiders was night raids, offering players a way to get double the amount of XP as well as an increase in loot value around the map. However, this came with some trade-offs, as night raids have an increased ARC presence and limited visibility. Since the game’s launch late last year, numerous other map conditions have been added to ARC Raiders, with the latest ones being Hurrice and Close Scrutiny. The latter also features the brand-new ARC enemy, the Vaporizer, which is undoubtedly one of the game’s deadliest additions to date.

ARC Raiders Players Think Stella Montis Is Too Dark
Although night raids in ARC Raiders are, of course, supposed to be darker than the standard experience, players have a huge issue with Stella Montis right now. Even without selecting night raid, there is a chance that players are placed into a much darker version of the map. This is an odd choice anyway, given that anybody who wants to play on a darker version of the map can already choose to do so, but the limited visibility is causing massive issues for some players. As seen in the post above, the dark sections of the map are borderline unplayable for those with an OLED monitor, which have much deeper blacks and prevent light bleeds.
This isn’t the only player to have complained about the darkness levels of ARC Raiders‘ Stella Montis map, as numerous other posts have appeared on the game’s subreddit with the same complaint. “Stella day raids should not be this dark,” one user said, posting a similar screenshot that shows the lack of visibility. Another post said that Stella day raids are darker than actual night raids, with a fellow player saying it is very strange and annoying. “Couldn’t see a thing, even with the flash,” the player responded. Another replied, “Yeah, it’s way too dark to enjoy.”
At the time of writing, there is no in-game setting to increase the brightness in ARC Raiders. However, this hasn’t stopped players from finding their own workarounds. Prior to a patch late last year, many were using NVIDIA Filters, a special setting for those with an NVIDIA graphics driver, that allowed them to adjust the brightness, gamma, and much more of the game. Unfortunately, Embark felt as though this gave certain players an unfair advantage over others, and removed the ability in an update. Some are still using the likes of the NVIDIA Control Panel to adjust the brightness settings of their displays, but with less success than what NVIDIA Filters produced.

New ARC Raiders updates are released weekly, with much larger patches arriving at the end of each month with new content. Embark often addresses weapon balancing complaints and bug-related issues in new updates every Tuesday, which means there’s a chance the studio may make some tweaks to the brightness of Stella Montis in the coming weeks, assuming it has heard the cries from the community on the matter.
