The critically-acclaimed 2024 twin-stick shooter Minishoot’ Adventures has been shadow-dropped on the Nintendo Switch 2. The move brings the latest game from SoulGame Studio to Nintendo’s home console, with a Minishoot’ Adventures release on the original Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S also arriving at the same time.
Minishoot’ Adventures is a 2D twin-stick shooter from indie developer SoulGame Studios. The game combines crisp combat mechanics with bright, colorful game worlds to explore, all the while offering players great progression with different ways to upgrade their ships. These upgrades are integral in the game’s various boss fights, which provide an ample challenge even for those who are familiar with the twin-stick shooter genre. It has been very popular on Steam since its April 2024 release, with over 3,500 user reviews, of which 98% are positive. This means that Minishoot’ Adventures has “Overwhelmingly Positive” user reviews on Steam, with favorable comparisons to games like classic Zelda and titles in the bullet hell genre.
8 Months After Launch, Nintendo Switch 2 Devs are Still Struggling with One Issue
A growing number of game developers are voicing frustrations with Nintendo over the company’s handling of the Switch 2 launch year.
Minishoot’ Adventures Has Shadow-Dropped on Consoles
During the recent Nintendo Indie World Showcase, Minishoot’ Adventures was shadow-dropped for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, marking the twin-stick shooter’s debut on consoles. Its initial release in April 2024 was PC-exclusive, and it has finally arrived elsewhere after almost two years. Given the nature of twin-stick shooters, the game is guaranteed to feel right at home with a controller in hand, or on the joysticks of both Nintendo Switch consoles.
Minishoot’ Adventures is notable for being in the top 25 highest-rated games of 2024, according to critics. It was a great year for gaming, with titles such as Astro Bot, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Balatro all launching in 2024, but Minishoot’ Adventures still manages to slot in among those games. On the review aggregator site OpenCritic, it has a Top Critic Average of 88, with 100% of critics recommending the game. It’s a credit to developer SoulGame Studio that the game continues to command interest almost two years later.
The Indie World Showcase was a great look at smaller titles on their way to the Nintendo Switch 2 in the near future. One of the biggest announcements was that Guacamelee! developer Drinkbox Studios’ next game, Blighted, is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. However, there was also a look at more promising indie titles such as Mixtape, My Little Puppy, and Deadzone: Rogue, highlighting a positive future for the console.
Minishoot’ Adventures marks yet another third-party title arriving on the Nintendo Switch 2. This has been a major goal for Nintendo during this console generation, marking itself out as a platform not just for gamers who want classic first-party franchises such as Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon, but also for those who want to play the biggest games from third-party publishers. It will be interesting to see how this pans out for Nintendo over the next few years, as it is not a strategy that will see results overnight.
