Overwatch gave Sierra some incredible buffs to her Helix Rifle and Anchor Drone on April 17, which happens to be her in-universe birthday. This hotfix should help make Sierra a more reliable pick, though fans should not be surprised if this new Overwatch hero receives more adjustments in the near future.
On April 14, Overwatch began Reign of Talon Season 2: Summit. Among the many changes in the update, one of the most impactful has been Sierra, a new damage hero sporting a Helix Rifle that can home in on enemies with Tracking Shot, an Anchor Drone for rapid mobility, and Tremor Charges and Trailblazer for massive area damage. Interestingly enough, Sierra’s in-universe birthday is April 17, meaning she came out closer to her birthday than any other hero in Overwatch history.

Overwatch has a frustrating bug that has been affecting players’ ability to jump in matches, and a developer says it may take weeks to fix.
Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 2 Hero Sierra Changes Explained
Sierra’s birthday has now come and gone, but not without her getting an awesome present from Blizzard. On April 17, Blizzard pushed a balance update hotfix that included some buffs to Sierra’s kit in Overwatch. Each projectile of her Helix Rifle now deals two extra damage, she grapples to her Anchor Drone faster, and her Anchor Drone has almost three times as much Health as it did before, making it far more durable. Additionally, the Health Pack of her Medi-Drone Major Perk has been buffed, and now heals the Damage hero for an extra 25 Health.
To compensate for these buffs, the Sierra hotfix also gave her one nerf as well. The cost of her ultimate, Trailblazer, has been increased by 30%, meaning it now requires 2350 points to prepare, rather than 1800 as it did before. Blizzard made this change because Sierra’s ultimate was charging too quickly, and because the Helix Rifle damage increase would accrue charge even faster without this nerf.
Before this hotfix, Trailblazer was tied with Cassidy for the 6th fastest ultimate in Overwatch. Now, Sierra is tied for 29th place with Overwatch heroes Domina and Torbjorn.
Fans are understandably divided about these balance adjustments. Many players are saying the new Overwatch hero is completely broken, and fear that these changes may make her more oppressive, even with the increased ultimate charge. However, according to the official Overwatch Hero Statistics page at press time, Sierra’s win rate is sitting between 46–48% in both Quick Play and Competitive Play in all regions, meaning she is not nearly as overpowered as she might seem. Though fans are still learning how to counter the new Damage hero, the numbers suggest she needed this tune-up.

It is unlikely that this is the last change players will see for Sierra. It is possible there could be even more micro-adjustments via additional hotfixes if these changes are too much or not enough in one direction or another. The midseason update for Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 2, on or around May 12, usually implements hero adjustments, so fans can expect Sierra to receive further tweaks if her win rate doesn’t improve enough – or if it improves too much. Either way, these changes are live now, so players can hop into a match and see how Sierra measures up to other heroes after these buffs.

DAMAGE
Sierra
Sierra has not been as effective as intended since her launch. Her weapon damage is being increased to improve overall output, while the damage increase to Tracking Shot better rewards players for successfully landing it. The Anchor Drone changes improve mobility responsiveness and drone survivability, allowing for more aggressive playstyles. Sierra’s ultimate cost has also been increased due to its already fast charge rate in combination with her improved damage output.
