Previews of the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake recently went live, providing people with the opportunity to closely check out the game’s many visual upgrades. While the remake retains the unique art style gamers first encountered in the 2004 original, it has received updated high-definition assets and improved lighting, further enhancing the classic’s already charming paper craft presentation. However, Intelligent Systems, the veteran Japanese studio that also worked on the GameCube original, seemingly had to make one big concession to accommodate the visual uplifts of the remake.

According to a report by Nintendo Life, the preview of the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake ran at 30 FPS, compared to the GameCube version’s 60. Fortunately, there were no other reported downgrades with the game, which ran perfectly and exhibited zero frame drops whether played in docked mode or not. In addition to having better visuals, the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake has an updated soundtrack, as well as several new characters and gameplay features. It also received a number of tweaks and quality-of-life improvements that many players, especially those who played the original game, will most likely welcome with open arms.

The retail giant was even forced to cancel pre-orders for the upcoming Switch exclusive due to inventory issues. Aside from the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake, Amazon was also forced to cancel pre-orders for Endless Ocean Luminous and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, which are slated to launch on May 2 and June 27, respectively.
