While Epic Games Store and Steam are two of the most common ways to claim free games on PC, there are a handful of other safe and reliable methods should someone keep their ear to the ground, with the latest letting players grab a free Steam Key for Planet Coaster until March 18. Released in 2016, Planet Coaster is a spiritual successor to RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, Thrillville, Thrillville: Off the Rails, and Zoo Tycoon.

It’s worth noting that Planet Coaster received a direct sequel in 2024, which improved upon the original’s building tools, added water park building and management gameplay, and introduced event sequencing gameplay. If someone likes Planet Coaster as a free game on Steam, they could also consider picking up the sequel down the road.

Merlin Entertainments’ John Burton Talks Rollercoaster Design and How Planet Coaster 2 Captures That Authenticity

Planet Coaster 2 is set to launch in just a few weeks, and Merlin Entertainments’ John Burton spoke with Game Rant about the game’s authenticity.

There are a few steps to claiming this free Steam key. First, players should know that the giveaway host is Digiphile (a company supported by former Humble Bundle team members), and while it is brand new, several players have already reported being able to claim the key. PC users will need to navigate to its giveaway page, register for an account, connect your Steam account, claim the game, and then activate the key. That’s a little more than free games via Steam’s Free to Keep promotion, but this is a $45 game being given away for free.

How to Claim Planet Coaster Steam Key for Free (Until March 18!)

  • Navigate to the Digiphile giveaway page
  • Register for a Digiphile account
  • Connect your Steam account to Digiphile
  • Claim the key by navigating to your Dashboard, then Games Library.
  • Activate the Key on Steam
    • Via the Steam Client, click “+ Add a Game” in the bottom-left corner
    • Select “Activate a Product on Steam”
    • Follow prompts to enter the Steam Key
    • Download and Play (for free!)

It’s worth noting that Planet Coaster is completely free via this distribution method, but there are some incredible deals for add-on content too. Because Planet Coaster has been out for a decade, there’s plenty of add-on packs to introduce content inspired by the spooky season, the World Fair, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Universal Studios, Ghostbusters, and more. Via Digiphile, players can pick up some of these packs at a discounted price:

  • Universal Construction Kits (Just $3)
  • Premium Upgrade (Just $10)

The Construction Kits include content from Back to the Future, Knight Rider, and Munsters Munster Koach, with the DeLorean Time Machine, K.I.T.T., and DRAG-U-LA vehicles all have in-game replicas. Meanwhile, the Premium upgrade is valued at $76.93 and gives fans access to the following: Magnificent Rides Collection, Classic Rides Collection, World’s Fair Pack, Adventure Pack, Studios Pack, Vintage Pack, and Spooky Pack.

Keep an Eye Out for More Free Games

With its former Humble Bundle team backing, Digiphile seems likely to give away free video games and steep discounts (while supplies last) more in the future. Planet Coaster is just one stop on the journey, so even if it’s not someone’s cup of tea, it might be worth keeping an eye on Digiphile for future free games. Having another reliable option, alongside common ones like Humble Bundle, Epic Games Store’s weekly free games, and Steam’s Free-to-Keep promotion, means more free video games. And who can say no to free video games?

Speaking of, the Epic Games Store free games (March 5 – March 12) are Turnip Boy Robs a Bank and the Raistlin’s Renown Pack for Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms. The former is a comedic action-adventure roguelike inspired by the Legend of Zelda games, while the latter is a content pack worth over $100 for Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms players, inlcuding Raistlin Majere, Gale, Spurt, Briv, Ellywick, and other bonuses.
