PC gamers have a limited time to claim, download, and forever keep a story-driven crime game from 2020, one that’s inspired by the best mafia dramas released over the years across movies and video games. What’s more, this free PC game is DRM-free, meaning users can download it, back it up, and completely own it forever. Given the rising issues surrounding digital ownership on PlayStation and beyond, it’s a pretty good time to invest in a personal digital library that can’t be taken.
The latest PC game giveaway is being hosted by IndieGala, which isn’t as popular as Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotion, but it’s a solid and continuous source for free games. Just like free Steam games, these titles are not always major blockbusters and sometimes fall more on the super indie side of games, but money is money. The game in question, Whiskey Mafia: Leo’s Family, typically costs $6, and while that’s pretty cheap for a PC game anyway, that’s at least a gallon+ of gas if not a cheap lunch in savings.

For the uninitiated, Whiskey Mafia: Leo’s Family is a story-driven crime game set in 1920s New York, where players step into the shoes of a port worker named Christopher. In true mafia fashion, Christopher gets wrapped up in the dangerous world of organized crime, with the game essentially being a classic Mafia movie in pixel-art form, as it explores themes of betrayal, gang politics, and the pursuit of the American Dream. It’s also a largely linear experience, complete with simple action sequences, driving segments, and mini-games, and it can be completed in a couple of hours. It’s a short PC game, but whether it’s a sweet one or not is up to the individual.
Over on Steam, Whiskey Mafia: Leo’s Family sits at a mixed overall rating: 68% Positive. It received praise for its pixel art game style/retro presentation, as well as its atmosphere and story, particularly for fans of 2K’s Mafia video games. However, criticism focused on simplistic gameplay and mission structure issues, with said story also splitting some players who think its story is too similar to the Mafia games. Either way, a nearly 70% rated game for the cost of nothing is hard to pass up.

More Free Games on the Epic Games Store
Those uninterested in a free mafia game may instead find something in the Epic Games Store’s current free games. On Epic’s Storefront, users can currently claim I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, as well as River City Girls 2, for free until July 9.
These free Epic Games Store games offer two very different experiences. I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream is a classic point-and-click game based on Harlan Ellison’s acclaimed sci-fi short story, challenging players to confront psychological horror, moral dilemmas, and the twisted games of the sadistic AI AM. Meanwhile, River City Girls 2 delivers a colorful co-op beat-’em-up packed game with fast-paced combat, RPG progression, and an expanded open-ended version of River City, as returning heroines Misako and Kyoko team up with familiar allies to punch their way through a new street brawling adventure.
