Final Fantasy 7 Revelation may best be played on PS5 Pro consoles, as the game will have an exclusive graphics option for the high-end PlayStation system to utilize. Though Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is no longer a PlayStation console-exclusive title, the new graphics feature takes advantage of the PS5 Pro’s technical capabilities.
Billed as the conclusion to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is the most-anticipated game of 2027. One of the game’s main draws is its open world, with towns such as Wutai and Mideel available for players to explore for the first time since the original FF7‘s release in 1997. Despite the fact that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation‘s ambitious open world will cover more ground than FF7 Rebirth did, that has not stopped Square Enix from giving the finale of the decade-long saga a proper ending that fans have waited for.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Unveils PS5 Pro Exclusive Graphics Mode
Even though Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will be available on all current-gen platforms on April 8, PS5 Pro owners will have an exclusive feature to pick from. First reported by Genki_JPN on Twitter, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will have a “Versatility Mode” graphics option that will only be available on PS5 Pro consoles. This new mode will aim to keep the game running at 60 frames per second (FPS) while keeping the game’s output resolution at 4K. Game director Naoki Hamaguchi added that Versatility Mode will leverage PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling, which is exclusive to PS5 Pro consoles. Hamaguchi said that, thanks to Versatility Mode and PSSR, the PS5 Pro may be one of the most recommended ways to play FF7 Revelation.
PS5 Pro users can also select Final Fantasy 7 Revelation‘s other graphics options that will be available on base PS5 systems. These options are Graphics Mode (4K resolution at 30 FPS), Performance – Sharp (60 FPS target with sharp antialiasing), and Performance – Soft (60 FPS target with soft antialiasing). It is likely that the base PS5’s graphics options will also be available on Xbox Series X, though Square Enix has not yet confirmed if that will be the case. Given that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will grant players access to the Highwind airship to get around the world map quickly, upscaling technologies will possibly be utilized as characters parachute down to the surface.
As Sony’s exclusive counterpart to upscaling technologies like AMD FSR and Nvidia DLSS, PSSR continues to receive updates. A PS5 system firmware update released in September added an Enhance PSSR Image Quality option within the PS5 Pro’s system menu. This new option is automatically enabled by default, and any game that supports previous versions of PSSR will benefit from the enhancement. This option can be turned off in the PS5 Pro’s Video Output menu.
Hamaguchi previously stated that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will have a massive file size of approximately 200GB, meaning users will have to set aside sufficient space beforehand. It remains to be seen how many players will take up Hamaguchi’s suggestion to play FF7 Revelation on PS5 Pro over other systems.
