PlayStation users have only one month left to take advantage of a major service offered by Sony before it is shut down forever. The company offers PlayStation users a variety of perks for engaging with its ecosystem, from monthly freebies for PS Plus subscribers to a new reward offering users $10 PS Store credit for purchasing certain digital games. Unfortunately, the PlayStation Stars program won’t be part of Sony’s rewards for console users much longer, with the service officially shutting down next month.

It’s been tough for PlayStation owners over the past few months, with Sony caught up in the massive controversy surrounding the end of physical PlayStation disc production in 2028. As PlayStation moves towards an all-digital future, and rumors of an eye-watering price for the PlayStation 6, the sting of losing physical disc ownership has started turning fans away from PlayStation altogether. The imminent shutdown of PlayStation Stars is just another instance of Sony closing the book on the current PlayStation era as the company realigns its approach to the future of gaming.

PlayStation Stars Officially Shutting Down on November 2

November 2, 2026 will be the last day PlayStation users can access and redeem any PS Stars rewards they may still have left. PS Stars was a program first introduced in 2022 as a loyalty program that offered users rewards like PSN wallet funds and select PlayStation Store products for simply signing up and making purchases on the PS Store. The program will officially be discontinued after the November 2 end date, so PS Stars members only have a month left to spend any remaining rewards points before they are gone for good.

This shutdown comes over a year after PlayStation Stars stopped accepting new members back in May 2025. Although no new members have been able to join in the past year since this soft shutdown date, existing members could still use their rewards points within the PS App. PlayStation will also allow users to keep any digital collectibles they have earned via the PS Stars rewards program permanently, even after the service has shut down.

There hasn’t been any word on whether Sony will replace the PlayStation Stars program with a new rewards program after the shutdown. In September, some PlayStation users noticed a PSN wallet credit reward system in place for digital purchases of games like The Blood of Dawnwalker and Star Wars Zero Company. However, this offer only lasted through the end of the month, and it’s not clear yet if this was a one-time thing or if Sony plans to make this standard practice moving forward.

Despite the upcoming PS Stars shutdown, PlayStation is still primed to have a huge month with a strong lineup of PS5 releases in October 2026. Massive releases like Final Fantasy Resonance, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and Phantom Blade Zero are all launching on the platform this month, and PS Plus subscribers have a handful of free games to claim in the meantime. While the loss of PlayStation Stars as a rewards program for digital PS Store purchases doesn’t do PlayStation any favors during Sony’s shift toward a digital release focus, there is still hope that a replacement for the program is coming down the pipeline.
