A Pokemon fan has shared their concept of what Crustle could look like if it got a Mega Evolution. With the unique concept coming back in the next mainline Pokemon game, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it’s on the mind of many fans.

In the mainline Pokemon series games, there have been several mechanics that have been introduced and then left behind in subsequent games. Mega Evolution appeared in Gen 6 and Gen 7 titles, but stopped appearing after Pokemon Sword and Shield introduced Dynamax and Gigantamax forms. While Dynamax and Gigantamax forms and Terastallization in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have their own pros as well as charms, many Pokemon fans are happy to see Mega Evolution get another game to be featured in.

A hilarious glitch in Pokemon GO turns a wild Mewtwo into a skater, surprising fans of the popular augmented reality mobile game.

Now, prolific Pokemon fan artist Shroodledoodles has shared their concept for a Mega Crustle evolution. The overall shape of the body has grown a bit, with small spikes jutting out of the Mega Crustle’s legs and face, which has a more severe facial expression. However, the main difference between the two forms is that the front of Mega Crustle’s rock has the structure of a building carved into it. The artist designed Mega Crustle with the ancient city of Petra as inspiration, and several fans in the comments have been impressed by the unique concept.

Crustle is a Pokemon that always carries a large shell on its back that looks like a cut-away block of earth. The layers in the dirt are similar to those seen at paleontological digs. While a Crustle with an embedded fossil or some other ancient deposit might have been an interesting take, the fan looked to Petra, which may seem familiar to some.

Petra is an ancient city located in southern Jordan, with its structures dating back to somewhere around 400-500 BC. Simply applying any city facade to the Crustle wouldn’t have really tied into its nature, but Petra is unique in that the city is essentially carved into the cliffs themselves. This ties in well with the idea of Crustle carrying a slab of rock on its back, as though it took the entire city or building with it. Fans who think they recognize the structure may remember it best from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, where it appears when Indiana is pursuing the holy grail.

Fan-made Pokemon evolutions and forms tend to be received well by the community, as many have considered what a Mega Evolution or alternate form of their favorite Pokemon might be like. It will be interesting to see if Crustle gets an official Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and if so, if there are any similarities to this fan’s concept.
