A Pokemon fan has recently devised a new Mega Evolution for Forretress. The Pokemon community has many talented artists who have engaged with fan art since the 90s, and this new design shows how talented these fans can be.
Forretress originally debuted in Pokemon Gold and Silver, during the second generation of Pokemon games. This Bug/Steel-type creature evolves from Pineco starting at Level 31, and it has quite a unique design. While the original Pineco is a Bug-type inspired by a pinecone, Forretress looks like a floating fortress due to its new shell.

A Pokemon fan imagines Milotic as a past Paradox creature, giving the Water-type monster a design inspired by the franchise’s most recent games.
Now, a prolific Pokemon fan artist called Matratzfratz has created a new Mega Evolution for Forretress. In this interesting design, the Pokemon does not change its type and instead doubles down on the idea that Forretress is actually a fortress. Inspired by the real-world Spanish castle of Castillo Nuevo de Manzanares el Real, the artist remade the Pokemon with a castle at the top of its head, also tweaking its cannons to look more old-school.
Mega Forretress Pokemon Fan Art
Matratzfratz is a prolific Pokemon fan creator, and this is not the first time that they have recreated a popular creature using elements inspired by the real world. Last week, for instance, Matratzfratz made a Mega Sudowoodo inspired by a real-life tree. By using the appearance of the giant baobab tree, a rare tree that can only be found in Madagascar, the gamer came up with a new design for the Rock-type Pokemon that keeps its overall style but changes its torso to resemble its real-life inspiration.
A few months ago, Matratzfratz also created an interesting artwork regarding another Bug-type creature, coming up with a disrupted evolution for Kakuna. In this alternative evolution, the artist decided to give the Steel subtype to Kakuna. Instead of becoming a Beedril, this creature keeps the old cocoon, has huge metal spikes coming out of its body, and is full of a substance that resembles blood, which makes for a pretty gruesome art piece that is very unlike any official design.
While Forretress is not exactly as popular as other creatures such as Charizard and Pikachu, other Pokemon fans have come up with interesting fan art regarding this creature before. An example is a Forretress variant inspired by Pokemon Legends created a few months ago. In this new design, the artist completely changed Forretress’ outer shell, turning it into a Japanese castle, a fairly similar idea to what Matratzfratz did with their fan art.
