Pokemon GO has teased the return of the Gen 8 Legendary Eternatus for its ongoing Twilight Trails season. While Legendary monsters tend to be absent from the game periodically, Pokemon GO often holds limited events that allow them to reappear. However, Eternatus has been missing for a particularly long time.

Eternatus, one of Pokemon Sword and Shield‘s three main Legendaries, first made its Pokemon GO debut during the Max Finale weekend in August 2025. Players were able to catch a single copy of Eternatus by progressing through the event’s GO Pass. Eternamax Eternatus could also be defeated in Max Battles, which granted fans a ton of Candy. After the event, Pokemon GO announced that Eternatus would return in the future, but it has been over a year of silence for the Poison/Dragon-type. Now, a new trailer suggests that the wait is finally over.

Pokemon GO Teases Eternamax Eternatus Comeback

Pokemon GO has shared a brief 15-second trailer showing a Power Spot on the horizon, followed by a giant creature in the air that greatly resembles Eternamax Eternatus. The video also shows dark, cloudy skies, much like the in-game sky looked during the Max Finale event. This would confirm the long-awaited comeback of Eternatus during Pokemon GO‘s current Twilight Trails season, which ends on December 1. Fans will likely receive more information on Eternatus’ return in the coming weeks.

The trailer also shows a group of Trainers camping in the wild with Gen 8 starters. Some fans believe that this is a nod to Pokemon GO‘s upcoming Wild Area 2026 event. Earlier leaks also reported that Eternatus would play a part in the new Wild Area. If this turns out to be true, then the Legendary Pokemon could officially return on November 6 for the in-person events in select regions or from November 14 to 15, during the Global edition. It remains to be seen whether players will be able to catch a new copy of Eternatus this time around or not.

Barring any changes during its return, defeating Eternamax Eternatus in Pokemon GO will be no easy feat, as its Tier 6 Max Battle requires around 30 players to beat it confidently. Powerful Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon are also necessary to counter the Legendary. Additionally, upgrading Eternatus costs large amounts of Candy, which can only be obtained by battling the Pokemon multiple times or walking 20km. For these reasons, some fans were not satisfied with the 2025 event, arguing that it was not player-friendly enough. It will be interesting to see which approach Pokemon GO takes for Eternatus’ first comeback.

While players wait for Eternatus, they can look forward to plenty of confirmed limited events for the coming weeks. For Halloween, Pokemon GO is releasing a new pancake-themed Pikachu and three other costumed Pokemon. Mega Chandelure is making its in-game debut on the same date as well, with an increased chance of being Shiny through SuperMega Raids. Later in November, Wild Area 2026 is debuting Hisuian Sliggoo and Hisuian Goodra via encounters in the wild.
