Starting on March 3, a new season of Pokemon Go begins with the Memories in Motion update. This season celebrates Pokemon Go’s tenth anniversary with a new Special Research story, more opportunities to catch shiny Pokemon, a new camera feature, and scheduling changes to Pokemon Go events.
A major highlight for Pokemon Go’s Memories in Motion update is the increased chance of encountering shiny Pokemon. Any evolved Pokemon in the wild can now be shiny if it has already had its shiny debut in Pokemon Go.
Players will have an increased chance of encountering shiny Pokemon from Raid Battles and hatching them from eggs compared to wild encounters. Additionally, any Pokemon rescued from Team Go Rocket that has made its shiny debut can also now be shiny, if the player is lucky enough to encounter it.
The Special Research story this season is called Pressure Rising, and it will be available to all players for free. This Special Research will not expire, and players who complete the Pressure Rising Special Research will earn an encounter with the Mythical Pokemon Volcanion. For players who already gained access to this Pokemon during the Pokemon Go Fest 2025–exclusive Special Research task, completing this new Special Research will award them with Volcanion candy instead.
To celebrate 10 years of Pokemon Go and 30 years of Pokemon, players will be able to use the new “What’s Your Favorite?” camera feature. This lets players create moments with their favorite Pokemon and share them with friends. This camera feature gives access to take photos with almost all Pokemon in Pokemon GO even if they haven’t been caught yet.
The Memories in Motion update also restructures Pokemon Go’s event schedule. Pokemon Go weekend events will move to Saturdays, and the events will move away from paid tickets to event Go Passes. The season also adds new Daily Discoveries for players to experience, and each day will have one active daily between 12:00 AM and 11:59 PM local time.
Just like past seasons, the limited-time Go Pass will be available during Memories in Motion, allowing players to complete challenges to rank up and earn additional rewards. The $15 premium Go Pass Deluxe also returns for those who are looking for upgraded rewards and faster progression.
Completing Field Research to unlock Research Breakthrough encounters can allow for encounters with one of the following Pokemon:
- Gyarados (Potential for shiny)
- Honedge (Potential for shiny)
- Dhelmise (Potential for shiny)
- Sinistea (Potential for shiny)
- Duraludon (Potential for shiny)
- Dreepy
Memories in Motion also includes seasonal stickers, Go Battle League cups, and a new rotation of Pokemon to hatch from eggs.
