Pokemon Masters EX is adding one of the most iconic trainers in franchise history for Pokemon‘s 30th anniversary, introducing Red and his Pikachu to the game. The mobile game spin-off developed by DeNA features many of the most popular characters from throughout the series, allowing players to obtain their favorite characters like Lance, Lillie, and Cynthia, among several others. Each character comes with their own Pokemon partner, forming the game’s Sync Pairs, with players taking up to three pairs into battle. Now, Pokemon‘s grand 30th anniversary celebration has some big updates for the mobile game.

Pokemon officially kicked off the festivities for its 30th anniversary with the annual Pokemon Day broadcast. The presentation was filled with major news across all branches of the franchise, teasing a special Pokemon TCG set and the upcoming release of Pokemon Champions. Pokemon also featured multiple callbacks to the franchise’s past throughout the stream, including a brand-new Pokemon Red and Blue music player with the original games’ soundtracks and the re-release of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen on the Nintendo Switch. Now, Pokemon Masters EX is getting one of the franchise’s original Trainers as a new character.

Pokemon Masters EX Adding Red’s Classic Design

Pokemon Masters EX officially revealed Red and Pikachu as the newest Sync Pair for Pokemon‘s 30th anniversary festivities. The EX Master Sync Pair features the original design of Red, taken from his appearance in Pokemon Red and Blue, alongside Pikachu as his Pokemon partner. The Red Sync Pair was added to the game just after the conclusion of the Pokemon Day presentation, with fans able to scout for Red through the game’s gacha system until April 13. Red has been featured multiple times before in Pokemon Masters EX in his different iterations from throughout the series, including his FireRed and LeafGreen design and a new Champion look among others.

Red was not the only new character revealed for Pokemon Masters EX during the presentation, with two more Pokemon protagonists also showcased. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s male protagonist, Florian, will appear in Pokemon Masters EX as an anniversary Sync Pair on February 28, paired with Ogerpon. Juliana is also slated to appear in Masters with a new anniversary variant on March 2, with the ninth generation’s female protagonist appearing alongside Terapagos. Players who log in to Pokemon Masters EX will also receive a special bonus for logging into the game before March 31, giving out 3,000 gems.

The multiple new characters in Pokemon Masters EX accompany multiple major updates for Pokemon‘s major spin-offs. Pokemon GO officially unveiled a brand-new anniversary celebration event, with “30th Anniversary All Out” said to feature nearly every Pokemon in the game appearing in the wild. Pokemon Cafe Remix also confirmed a special event centered around the franchise’s starter Pokemon, first giving fans new variants of each Kanto starter for consistently completing weekly mission bingo challenges. However, for many fans, the biggest announcement of the Pokemon Day broadcast came at the end of the presentation.

Game Freak and The Pokemon Company finally announced the long-awaited Pokemon Wind and Waves at the conclusion of the Pokemon Day event. The trailer showed off the main protagonists for the games alongside a first look at the trio of starter Pokemon in Wind and Waves, revealing Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua. Pokemon Wind and Waves also showed off plenty of the scenic environments throughout the new region, with players adventuring through tropical forests, sandy beaches, and even potentially teasing underwater locales. Between the first official news about Pokemon Wind and Waves and multiple events for the franchise’s spin-offs, Pokemon‘s 30th anniversary looks to be an exciting time for fans around the world.
