Pokemon Pokopia CDs Are Color-Coded, Here’s What It Means

As players progress throughout Pokemon Pokopia‘s biomes, they’ll eventually come across a DJ Rotom and the need for CDs to progress. However, most players will have encountered these Pokopia CDs ahead of then. They’re common enough in this post-apocalyptic take on Kanto, but many fans may not have realized that these CDs are color-coded for specific reasons.

No doubt, most Pokopia players will have figured out how to navigate CDs with DJ Rotom and how to use them to change the game’s music—it’s the primary function, after all. But most players are probably not spending a lot of time looking at these items in their inventory. In fact, many players probably stash them away until they finally discover a CD Player or DJ Rotom to use.

Pokopia CDs Are Region Color-Coded

Not looking at these CDs means fans could easily miss the color-coded rings in the center of them. At the center of the disc, the CD’s hub, are two colors: one fills in the top portion of the hub, one fills in the bottom portion. It should surprise no one that some of these colors are red, green, yellow (gold), and white (silver). Yes, every Pokopia CD is color-coded to the region it is derived from, but the good news is also that every region is represented in some form. Obviously, there are more CDs for regions like Kanto and Johto than Paldea, but there are still a few corresponding CDs for later regions.

As Imlegos shared with the Pokopia subreddit, red and green are connected to Kanto, yellow and white are for Johto, dark red and dark blue are for Hoenn, slate blue and dark pink are for Sinnoh, black and white are for Unova, slate blue and red are for Kalos, dark yellow and gray are for Alola, bright blue and red are for Galar, pure green is for Hisui, and red and dark blue are for Paldea.

How to Find CDs in Pokemon Pokopia

• CDS can be found when players use Rock Smash to destroy Glowing Spots. These spawn locations are randomized but plentiful, so players should be sure to collect the goodies ASAP.
• Glowing Spots disappear after a certain number of interactions every day, but more will spawn the next day.
• Lucky Days can trigger more glowing spots (and thus more chances for CDS and other Pokopia Items to spawn)
• The Dowsing Machine, obtained by completing Hitmonchan’s Request, can help locate nearby glowing spots as well. A Search specialty Pokemon is also needed.

Pokopia CDs Are More Than Just Collectibles

As players continue to explore Pokopia‘s biomes, collecting CDs becomes a way of immersing oneself in the rich history of the Pokemon franchise. Each CD not only represents a song from a specific game but also acts as a visual marker for the game’s region, making it easy for fans to identify where the music originates. Seasoned players may even find themselves searching for specific CDs from their favorite generations, whether it’s nostalgic Kanto tunes or the modern melodies of Paldea. This makes CDs in Pokopia a collector’s delight, offering both auditory and visual rewards.

Not to mention, Pokopia players are impressively creative. Someone recently made Ash Ketchum’s home in Pokopia, so imagine walking around it with familiar Kanto themes, or creating something like Union Cave while playing Johto music on a CD Player. Then, for completionists, keeping track of all 43 CDs is essential. Using tools like the Dowsing Machine or monitoring Lucky Days can accelerate collection, while careful observation of glowing spots guarantees no CD is missed.

What’s more, Pokopia is not over—even for those who have rolled credits. Pokopia events will bring in tons of Pokemon, but the 2024 Teraleak also suggests that there will be at least five new regions, as in five new biomes, via Pokopia DLC to expand the map. What those biomes are remains to be seen, but it’s a chance to add in representation for the Johto region, if not more regions generally, and introduce new Pokemon, new Pokemon forms, and new story developments for Pokopia. That sounds like more CDs to me. Even something small like CDs, in a game like Pokopia, contributes to the world-building of a franchise, and such a small detail as color-coding them goes a long way in gamifying the nostalgia of Pokopia‘s world.
